First car shop no business card

I did my first auto dealer shop today.
The dealer told me five times that he was new and actually asked me to forgive him twice for not knowing everything.

The problem is that he didn't have any business cards, again he told me that he was knew as an excuse for not having any. I asked if they had any generic cards and suggested that he write his name on one of those. He told me he really didn't want to ask the manager.
He called me and I took a screen shot of my phone log which shows his number calling me during my shop times.
I also grabbed a different dealers card who wasn't at their desk on the way out.

I did email the MSC of course.

It's also my first shop with this MSC.

Any idea how this one will end up going?

Thanks as always!!!

I would have asked him to write his name on the card. I am not sure how this will go to be honest, it could go either way. It is really in the clients hand (not the Mystery Shop company). If the client requires it , they require it.
I would try to provide as much info as possible in the report. Some MSCs will not forward your email to the client and then the client is left asking questions amd ultimately rejects the report. Sounds like from what I read that you obtained a card but it was not that person's card. Like the poster above mentioned, next time ask the employee to scratch out the name and put their own in its place.

How frustrating. I've been in a spot a few times before where they haven't provided a card. I then asked them to write their name on a piece of paper with their phone number. Fortunately it's always panned out okay but I'm really not sure if the shop will be accepted without that business card. If it happens again try taking a time/date stamped photo of the dealership.
Here are some tricks I use:

I always observe the office area (whatever type of shop that is requiring a business card) and look for brochures or anything with the business name on it.

I am also on the lookout for business cards just sitting random in the little holders on the counter..

If the associate says they do not have a business card, I walk over to the generic ones and hand it to him and say, "Oh. Here I found one. Can you write your name and number because I want to come back and deal with you." They are usually flattered and sign it right away smiling smiley

I find the newer associates don't think as quick on their feet, as the more seasoned employees. The seasoned employee more often than not, grabs a card from anywhere, if he does not have any of his own..

The reason I do this is so I don't leave empty handed or "panic" because I have failed to get a business cardsmiling smiley

If all else fails, he won't write his name on a scrap of paper, he won't give you a business card, then I go outside and take pictures of the building, submit to the MSC with an explanation. You can't be punished if all the above fails (usually) tongue sticking out smiley
Associates can give you a print out of the vehicle with the specs and pricing. Ask for that and ask them to write their name and number on it.

Thanks guys. I do have another salespersons card, two brochures, a time stamped photo of the building, a call from him logged at the time of my visit and a geoverify code.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Sounds pretty good but could you have at least gotten a lock of his hair. I don't think you tried hard enough.
Hilarious, Lucy! Thank you for the making me laugh out loud!

I think you will be okay if you explained the reason why you did not get a business card in detail in your report. You cannot make someone do something they do not want to do. Obviously, it would have been in his best interest to provide you with his contact information, even if he had to use another salesman's business card or write it on a piece of paper. I suspect that he will not make this mistake a second time.

I did a cell phone shop and the associate had run out of business cards. I suggested that she write down her contact information on another person's business card. She did not want to do that, so I asked her to do so on the brochure she gave me. She was happy to do that. I explained it all in the report and provided a picture of the brochure with her info on it. My report was accepted - no questions asked.

I had a salesman write his name and number and place of business on a scratch piece of paper at a motorcycle dealership where he had run out of business cards. It happens.
I did one in Arizona but lost the card due to an car accident. I explained the situation and the shop was accepted without it. I did know the salesmen's name.
When one does shopping long enough you will eventually come across almost all situations in some varient.

Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.
This is so funny to me. I am sitting here right now at my dealership. I just transferred to a different location a few days ago. To make sure I have a card, with the correct address, I take a few from someones desk. I line out their name and put mine on the card (and also fix the email address)! Done deal! Cards are cheap, plenty of them around.

I agree completely. Any salesperson worth a damn would make absolutely sure to have some sort of business card or contact information available for potential clients at all times. Even if the dealership was slow to provide cards, he should have taken it upon himself to have something to hand out. He'll end up as an "order taker" and never be a professional salesman with that type of excuse.

But back to the subject--Lisa's suggestion about the vehicle printout is excellent. I'd ask for that as well as the card.
They accepted the business card that I grabbed, they emailed me for the Salesman's last name so I had to call for that (Seven syllables in an eight letter name).
They gave me a 9/10 because they had to ask me for his last name .
I'll take it.

Please know that most companies would have commended you for your extra efforts and not downgraded your score for having to seek clarification for an unusual situation. If the MSC is Intellishop, nothing (including the aforementioned lock of hair), will ever be enough.
