The whole reason to buy an unlocked phone is to *NOT* buy a plan from the big three.
You buy a plan from a reseller company that resells off the SAME NETWORKS and they will GIVE you the sim card for free. No contract and they will port the phone number for free as well.
I think some of you people have done so many cell phone shops that your brainwashed by listening to the robots from the big three to the point you don't know better!
Your going to pay more for a phone that does less and don't realize what you actually pay for the phone buy buying it this way. Think of it as buying your phone from Rent-A-Center. Sure, they have a good phone, but you got a raw deal and paid out the ass for it. Then you have locked apps and tracking built into it that slows the phone down. It's a crap deal to buy into any cell "plan" period.
Europe outlawed this and they have cheaper rates and this is why unlocked phones have dual sim slots. You can choose what carrier to make a data connection or hot-spot, or text from or make and receive calls from multiple carriers even!
Once you go with an unlocked unbranded phone you pay cash for, you can then choose to change carriers and port your number based on the true cheapest reseller company at a moments whim. This is where the best deals are to be had.
You can even have the option to not buy a data plan. I have a cable Internet plan that has enough hot spots that I choose to not even have data. My sim is a pure pay by the minute text sim. I have done shops where I needed to order with app and always found a hot-spot close by and was fine.
I have a pre pay plan on my phone that has no data! I pay ZERO dollars per month and 10 cents a minute and have roll over minutes that last me a year with a $100 refill.
If you need data, here is a list of the cheapest data reseller plans that use the SAME NETWORKS you pay way too much for:

I think of all people, shoppers need to be told the truth as they are lied to day in and day out for a few bucks and may begin to believe it!
