Oh, I've done those and l-o-v-e-d them!

I intend to live forever. So far, so good.
I found them; wasn't the fee last time $15.00?

PS
Thank you, by the way. smiling smiley

I have deliberately never done one. Don't they know you are a mystery shopper when you have income from mystery shopping? Plus, my feeling is that I am either capable of doing my own taxes and more qualified than the chain tax preparation services, or I need a real accountant. I could be convinced otherwise, so ....

I don't know about IRS but CRA just has terms for categories of self employment business.. Nothing there for Mystery Shopping. grinning smiley. These sound like fun. Do you have to actually prepare your taxes for this? Or just inquire? Or...?

The ones I have seen in the past require that you let them prepare and file your taxes. Maybe there are more than one type out there? Some even require that you get a refund anticipation loan (they pay the fees).

How can this be a revealed audit? What would you be auditing for? Proper signs? Disclosure forms? The right advertising in the windows?

Haha <this tax preparer client> needs revealed audits so bad. Not that I have gone there but I heard horror stories. Maybe they are now grinning smiley

Mod note: Oops! The MSC was named a few posts up... only by initials, but still. So now we can't name the tax place. smiling smiley

You aren't getting your taxes done. You are auditing them. Other words, "Are they ready for you, the taxpayer?smiling smiley

It looks like its one shop per customer/shoppersad smiley You assign one and the other disappearssmiling smiley I can't remember the fee last year (2014)smiling smiley
Dixie, you may want to edit out the client name since the MSC was identified.

I've completed announced audits at a couple of the tax preparation places.

Sojo, most years there are both mystery shops and the audits. For the mystery shop your taxes are prepared and you do not reveal yourself.

I know, but the title is the "Tax Audits". I have done both for the client and the scheduling company. When they are MS it usually include your tax refund or taking out/applying for a Loan. The audits, they know you are doing a audit. So it is revealed.smiling smiley

If I'm not mistaken the quoted poster is thinking that having your taxes prepared (which she does herself or have them done elsewhere) is what a "tax audit" is. Do to the fact that she has "never" shopped a tax audit. If I am wrong, then I stand corrected, no harm no foul. smiling smileysmiling smiley
Then I misunderstood. When you said one per customer I thought it was for the one where you get your taxes done. Are they only allowing one audit? And in both our defense, the title of the thread is "Tax Audit Shops." LOL.

They were $15 last year. Should we wait for a cyber special? They are only $10 here. I don't get excited over $10 shops.
The revealed audits here are $10 right now. I did them last year for $16 and $20.

I did two different tax clients. Different scenarios but revealed. smiling smiley

One of the audit clients is newer than the other. The first time I saw them was January 2013 at a base rate of $30 with only one audit per shopper. I fell out of my chair seeing them at maybe $15 or so last year and if it's $10 now, well that's just wrong on so many levels.

Thanks for the heads up. I just self assigned one at the location near my home. But now when I look back at the job board, all the other locations are gone. Are they only letting you do one this year? Last year I remember doing a bunch.
I took one at $10 as it's literally in walking distance. Then I refreshed the job board and every other one within 10 miles just vanished. It looks like 15-20 minutes on site. Snap at most 5 photo's.
I've done six, maybe seven. Two different clients here. Revealed audits with pictures.

Yes. Walk in with LoA, take notes, take pictures, ignore the glares, smile, file the report.

Yes, the base rate keeps going down each year. I am insulted by $10 this year (and I won't do one for that amount).
Got a phone call from Georgia. I love those ladies. smiling smiley

Snagged a nice one. One of many, I hope.
They're offering $12 for the audit in my neck of the woods, and at the moment I see only one assignment. The amount is not worth it because the location is too inconvenient for me, and in a neighborhood I'd rather not visit.
I'm pretty sure they were at 30 last year, maybe the year before that.

Evaluating and mailing packages since 1994
They're at $12 in my area. I self-assigned one, and the others all disappeared from the job board. Crossing my fingers I don't regret accepting this assignment!
I did them last year. They are very easy to do. I have one scheduled....wish they would let you take more.
Funny thing here. I do not see a limit on how many I can do. Hmm..maybe you're with a different company. I'm doing them for M.F.
