How are MSCs and Schedulers paid?

I was thinking about this the other day. Out of curiosity, how do MSPs and Schedulers get paid?

Are MSCs paid a fee for completing an entire job for a company?
Are schedulers commissioned based on number of jobs covered?

I'd imagine MSC's are paid like any other business.

MSC proposes a offer to complete a report to the client based on a minimum number of shop report results. The proposal to the client would include the scope of work and cost estimate breaking down the costs for the project.

From the budget the client awards the MSC, it would be on the MSC's responsibility to use those funds to operate and at the same time, pay the employees and IC's.

That's a very basic view of it.

Actually, I spoke to one scheduler who frequents the forum and I remember him telling me that they receive X amount for bonusing (?) shops. Whatever he does not give out in bonus money he gets to keep. That is on top of whatever the pay is he makes.

Not to nitpick, but you seem to be giving out poor information about schedulers and MSC's in several areas. Different companies work differently. Some schedulers get paid hourly, some get paid by shop, some get a combination of the two.

@Marlene, your posts - not just this one - contain information about schedulers that is inaccurate for most schedulers and most companies. Please identify your MSC. Obviously they pay less than others and have unusually confining rules.
During a gas station revealed audit, I discovered that the "client" was not directly paying for the shop. The gas shop owner (franchisee) was complaining to me about how much he had to pay for the audit. Apparently the parent gas company requires that franchisees get audited and they make them pay for it. This is probably why some of them are upset with us. They are forced to pay for something they don't want.
Excuse me! I'm giving out poor information?! I think not! I worked there for over three years and I do happen to know what I am talking about. I will not name the MSC by name because of confidentiality. It is not worth me getting into trouble. Before you start accusing people of poor information, you need to be sure you know the truth. I don't appreciate being bashed for telling the truth and trying to be helpful!
Marlene, our point is that the one company you worked for (Maritz if anybody was curious) does not do things like the very vast majority of companies. You are implying that it works the same everywhere and it most certainly does not.

bgriffin, what makes you think you know what company I worked for? You are out of line. Do not make guesses or assumptions about anything that concerns me and that you know nothing about. You do not have the right or the authority to do so.
I get paid per completed shop.

If a shopper accepts a shop and completes it on their own, that is gravy.

If I have to seek out shoppers, get told off for emailing shoppers who don't drive more then a few miles, find a second shopper after the first one flakes, (repeat as needed) then I earn that money.

Not all companies offer bonuses to their schedulers.

I love this job. I really do. I meet so many nice folks all across the country and Canada. It is fun.

Every job has it's headaches and not so nice people.
Because I make it a point to understand how the companies I work for (and sometimes don't work for) do business. Some of the things you have posted are indicative of how Maritz works and one of your posts was specifically in a thread about Maritz. Your reaction to the remark indicates to me I am correct. Also, you do not have the right or authority to tell me what I can and can't make educated guesses about.

If Marlene worked for 3 years at only Maritz, and at no other MSC, that would explain the misinformation provided about schedulers. The information she is providing perhaps correctly portrays a scheduler employed by Maritz, but the information is not correct for schedulers in general.

Marlene sounds like she is telling the truth but her knowledge is limited. She seems to genuinely want to be helpful. Now that she knows that the information is not helpful and does not portray schedulers at most MSCs, I think she will probably stop posting about schedulers.
And here we have yet another forum noob coming in here with guns a'blazin' pretending that everything she knows is the only way things are.

Marlene, perhaps you should preface all of your generalizations about the industry as a whole with "At the MSC where I worked for three years..." instead of assuming so very incorrectly that the way you worked is exactly the same way everyone works. You'll cause far fewer problems around here when you realize that your experiences aren't shared by the rest of the MS world.

AustinMom and BGriffin, you are both incorrect. Also, if I choose to post about schedulers, I will do so. I don't bow to bullies and/or dictators. I do not believe you to be the experts that you try to portray.
I'm sorry you feel you are being bullied, Marlene. That is not our intention. Our intention is that the most correct information be posted on our forum. If matters not to me where you work. You are posting information based on limited knowledge. The information you are posting is not correct for the industry in general.

Post whatever you wish. However, anytime you post inaccurate information, posters here will comment that your information is inaccurate. Inaccurate information posted on the forum is not helpful to anyone.

Hoju, I include you also in my above post. You do not know it all. You don't like what I post even though it is the truth, then don't read it. Don't try to tell me what to do because you don't know anything about me. I don't let people like you scare me away. The MS I worked with would call and ask for me because they liked to work with me. I always shot straight with them and tried to look out for them as much as I possibly could. Just because I give info. on the shops I placed that may not match with experiences others here have had does not mean I am incorrect. It simply means the MSC's are different. End of story.

Thanks again so much for all of your hospitality, not! I am very thankful to say I enjoyed the shoppers I worked with and I enjoyed my job. I was not treated by the shoppers in a negative way. They appreciated me and I appreciated them and I liked my job. (shaking my head at the negativity shown by some on this board.)

Hi Marlene. Thanks for the response. The above quoted portion of your post is exactly my point. It's YOUR experience with one MSC and your statements have come across as all inclusive, as if EVERY MSC does it that way. They do not. No one here has even implied that you were not telling the truth, only that that truth is not as universal as you implied. In fact it's very rare and almost opposite of how most MSCs do business. In that view, you are indeed incorrect.

Bgriffin, I never said or implied that the way the MSC I worked for did things the same way as other MSCs did. You, and a few others decided to read that into my posts. Therefore, that is your bad and you are incorrect. smiling smiley

Please tall me where you stated that only the MSC you work for paid low hourly wage and are not paid commissions.

You are definitely mistaking a desire for a more balanced portrayal of aspects of this business and negativity. The point was made your knowledge and experience seems to be limited to one company. This one company appears to have rules and policies which are vastly different from most other MSCs. The suggestion you speak to rules in regards to that company only, regardless of which one it might be, rather than make sweeping pronouncements about how things are handled industry-wide is reasonable. I don't know how much experience you have as an actual mystery shopper. Many of us who commented have been in the business for five to ten years or more and have experience working with over 100 companies. There were even some current and former schedulers who chimed in to say they had a different pay structure and they also were allowed mystery shop for both their own companies and others. In addition to shoppers and schedulers who are regulars here, the forum is frequented by editors and MSC owners. There is a lot of knowledge in these pages.

That's right. Everyone is wrong except for you. Does that happen to you a lot?

Your very first post indeed implied that you knew how the whole industry worked. The fact that you're not willing to recognize that shows that you're here for one reason only- to troll for arguments.

Sorry Hoju, but I don't agree Marlene is attempting to be a troll. I believe she believes the way her company operated was standard. Whether it is an assumption based on having no experience with other MSCs or her company told her all MSCs operate the same way, we can't be sure.

Lisa, I don't know what's worse- the possibility that she's actually a troll or the very likely possibility that you're right and she's completely unwilling to believe, after being told by so many experienced people, that she's giving out false information.
