Hotel Shops with Luggage Assistance

Am I the only one that this turns into a total cluster for? I've done 3 so far for the same brand that require it and none of them have been done correctly. To the point that I don't think I can put these into a route. Today I called for luggage assistance at 10:01. Another phone call later and finally at 10:45 I went ahead and left my room. Had this been in a route those 45 minutes could be killer. I'm just curious is if it's something about me or how I'm doing it or what? Or does everyone have these problems?

It's been pretty common with some busier hotels. I look at it as something that keeps us in business.
I find it horribly annoying, difficult, and uncomfortable. I don't think I'll take any more shops that have that requirement.

I have not had that sort of delay. However, if my call does not produce bell service within 10 minutes, I make a second call. I have never had a challenge from the MSC or the client for doing so.

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
If you are departing around check-out time, there's always a crunch.

What I generally do is call earlier in the morning and ask them to store my luggage. I can then finish up the tests for that day, perform the check-out and have them bring my bags to the car. The bell storage room is usually near the valet area, so that usually speeds up the process on departure.
Interesting! I have never thought of this... But don't they usually want you to accompany the bell staff down to the lobby?

Easily done, Linda M. The pretense of getting the tickets and wanting change to tip the bellman who picked your bags up to be stored is always believed. No prob going back to your room since you haven't checked out yet
Should also say if you have a bag pull for a large group departure, plan on 45 minutes to an hour for bell service. I like Steve's strategy...
I guess I could call down early but doesn't that defeat the purpose of having to do the interaction? I didn't realize "storing your luggage" and luggage assistance were the same thing.

In this particular case there were 2 bellhops, 0 customers checking out, and 3 valets standing around doing nothing when I went downstairs. On top of that I complained while checking out. You would think that they would have my luggage waiting on me when I pulled my car around since I had already called and complained and then complained again at check out but I had to walk back in to the hotel and retrieve it myself.

I hope you reported it that way! The bellman should have given it to the valet or he/she should have been waiting outside with your bag and stowed it in your car trunk.

You have to look at the particular standards being evaluated. Storing and retrieval of the bags covers most of them. I've evaluated hotels for dozens of companies and never gotten pushback on the bag storage strategy. It's still luggage assistance since you looking at the call for bell services, the response time, and giving the staff the option to assist you with other things, thank you, invite you back, etc....
I have completed several hotel shops and have only experienced a long delay with luggage assistance one time. In that case, I called a second time asking for assistance after waiting 20 minutes from the first call. Then, I had to wait 25 minutes for the valet to bring my car around. I was irritated as all get out because I had three other shops to do that day.
