No, they don't notify you until after they take the money -- if you notice it and ask about it. If you don't ask, they don't tell.
I somehow failed to transfer my last $15 payment from Ace last year. Not sure how that happened, since I always sweep the account as soon as I get the payment notice. I can only guess I failed to click a "confirm" button, or had an internet problem or got distracted in the middle of it because in my mind, I had done it so I never looked again. I didn't discover it until I was reconciling my shopping information with my Quicken account for tax purposes and could not find where that $15 had ever showed up in a bank account. When I looked into it, only $5 was left. They had taken two $5 "dormant account fees" without bothering to tell me about it.
They did refund one of them when I protested, but refused to refund the other.
They did send me an email when they refunded the $5, but never sent me any emails when they took them out to start with.
I find the company dishonorable for not notifying the account holder at 5 months that "your account is about to go dormant, blah blah, and we will start stealing your money if you don't take action now." Or even telling you "your account has been charged a $5 dormancy fee, blah blah" after taking the first fee.
I'm not even sure it's legal for them to do this without attempting to contact the account holder.
I told Ace I will not shop for them ever again if they don't give an option other than Payquicker. I was told the owner of Ace was "negotiating" with Payquicker over it but apparently they got nowhere.
Time to build a bigger bridge.
