I'm confused. I thought Jacob gave us a perfectly clear option to reporting posts and behavior that we felt were unacceptable. Why is there name-calling (calling someone a troll is name-calling, IMHO)? If someone suspects a troll, Jacob requested that his response be via the Report function rather than posting to let everyone know what he thinks he has spotted. I thought the request made perfect sense.

People are still responding because once the troll-like behavior has been reported and the offending posts have been removed, the people reading the thread after said removal has no idea there they was troll-like behavior. So they post a response. The people who read the troll-like posts before the removal sometimes want to warn the people who are posting after the fact of what transpired earlier. That is why I think it is a good idea to have a brief "mod note" when a post is removed. Otherwise the thread gets lost in translation. And I posted something similar to this in the Meta thread.
Let me see if I got this.

1. There are undesirable posts, which are eliminated.

2. The thread goes on.

This is not what we want? This is not good?

LOL you have only proved that you are insane by considering it. KSSEmma wrote a really funny post many years ago on V about the life of a scheduler.
From 2003:

Go out into your garage and find all the unsafe power tools you can. First try hitting each of your fingers multiple times with a hammer. Then make sure to operate all of your electronic gadgets. Be sure not to follow ANY of the posted safety warnings. Make sure to have your feet submerged in an ice chest filled with water while doing this. If you survive with all fingers and limbs in place, enjoy the pain of electrocution, AND you have an extra 60-80 hours per week with NOTHING to do, please email us at KSS. We are always looking for a few good recruits.

Ha ha, I knew those power tools in my garage would come in handy here. smiling smiley

Time to build a bigger bridge.
I have seen some ads for schedulars. They didn't pay very well, you have to be available a certain number of hours per day. I didn't really consider it as I have to plan everything around my substitute teaching so can't commit to a certain number of hours per day on a regular basis. If I did consider it in the future it seems it would only leave enough time for a few "plum" jobs. I already get a few of those.
Do I want to be a scheduler? You bet'cha, just like I want to sew my own clothes, raise a garden, keep a cow, do laundry on a rub board and dig ditches. No offense to schedulers, just making myself clear here. All of them have my support and respect.

Gardening is very therapeutic, MD! There's a certain sense of self-satisfaction that comes along with growing your own vegetables. #threadderail

Hoju, decades ago my mom gave me two huge concrete planters for either side of my entry way. I keep rocks in them. Works for me.

There is a great article about this very subject in shoppersforum magazine right this moment.

Do I like being a scheduler? Let me think. I get to work at home, make my own hours, pay my own taxes and health insurance, get to write off almost everything I pay for because I work all the time. I think yes! It takes a special person to be a scheduler. You have to be goal-oriented and demanding of yourself and like a challenge, but that's me!
Julia, I think the biggest question is how well it pays. We see plenty of postings hiring schedulers at $8-10 / hr. If that works for you, that's wonderful. But I think what most people are thinking is that it's a LOT of stress for nearly minimum wage. Would you mind sharing if that hourly rate, that several MSC's have offered, even remotely accurate?

Scheduler salaries and benefits, just like shopper assignments, vary greatly by company.

I made what most people would probably consider a very good annual salary when I was a scheduler, and got to work from home. However, I felt like I never ever had any time off, was constantly under stress and was prohibited from taking ANY assignments for the company that I worked for.

To me...that was pretty miserable. I'm much happier as a shopper.
Mary, sewing was a great hobby for me. I used to do some of my clothes, but haven't had time. I always tell myself. One day I visited my doctor. She was wearing a lab coat over a very lovely dress and she showed the dress to me. She said she was going out and she made the dress herself. She was actually glowing. The dress was very becoming and she had a new hairdo. How did she find time to sew?

@MDavisnowell: Hahaha! My feelings exactly! Although I liked the whole creative concept and really wanted to embrace it, I eventually came to view it as "something's going to go wrong and it's just a matter of time". I was right; it did; I was stressed; and I quit.

I think I want to become a scheduler for more reasons than one. The shopper life is ok but I think the scheduler life is better.

To respond to your first sentence...first off not sure how you would notice that schedulers get access to better shops and locations and take them unless you have personal experience. I do have that experience and will say that I am sure each MSP/scheduling company has it's own policies. When I scheduled I absolutely could schedule myself to whatever locations I wanted. That said, in the entire time I scheduled only one shop was near my area and it was an audit I was not at all interested in so I wasn't snapping up any of these "better"shops. I would however schedule any other scheduler who wanted any of my shops as I knew that these shops would get done. It was a perk of the job and I don't see any problem with it.

I work on a commission and the commission changes by the type of job I assign, so I can't answer that, but I do earn enough to support myself comfortably. Of course, I woprk about 60 hours a week but it is at home. I don't have to have a "work" wardrobe, getmy hair done or my nails, so it's a trade-off.
I've talked with a wide diversity of employees at Maritz. Diversity is a good idea to embrace. For me, being a scheduler would be bad due to the hours of sitting at a desk, phone, and computer data base. What fascinating shops could a scheduler assign to him or herself? Only the ones near to them.

Please excuse typos. I don't do well with my smartphone.

Could we find out if our posts are "toggled?"
Speaking as a person who was a scheduler for three years, what makes you think that schedulers are even allowed to be shoppers let alone assign shops to do themselves? I never saw it happen and never heard of it happening.
What company do you work for Marlene? I know of a lot of IC schedulers and some employee schedulers who also mystery shop.

Oh my heavens!, scheduling may seem like easy peasy work. But I don't think its all wine and roses for them, if the end of the month phone calls and personal emails I receive to fill shops are any indication.

Schedulers get paid for scheduling shoppers who get the job done and perform the shop correctly. I can only imagine the excuses they receive from shoppers who contracted and then flake.
