Apply to as many companies as you can, the more you apply to the better chance of getting jobs in your area. Most of the companies that I am signed up with send me e-mails about shops in my area.

True.

Also, I have found (at least as a free Bronze level member) that MANY of the jobs that SS sends out as available in "my area" either no longer exist or are in other parts of the State that I don't cover.
While you are both correct that the free shadowshopper membership doesn't offer much, if you go to the next level (I think I paid $19.95 for 3 months) more opportunities are available. I get 95% of my jobs from shadowshopper, either directly or from a scheduler that saw my bio and called me. I do feel its worth the money. I'm still in the early stages so I'm not yet ready to advance to the more expensive membership but hope to after I get my Gold certification.
I haven't started shopping for pay as yet only on a couple of practice shopping assignments that were submitted and approved. I contacted a mystery shopping advertisement in a local newspaper. It was a 30 day trial mystery shopping opportunity for $1.95 ,after that you get charged $8.95 a month.I called and was able to get the trial time extended. Now that I know that there are free mystery shopping sites or at least companies/sites that only charge one time fees in order to gain access to such information,I'm trying to learn as much as I can about mystery shopping so that I will do the best job that I can for the least amount of money.
Sabrina,
