Did you ever cancel a shop . . . .

Did you ever cancel a shop after you received the report and thought the time involved wasn't worth it? Fortunately, or should I say "unfortunately," I contracted an intestinal virus the day I was supposed to do the shop. The scheduler was understanding and I got out of the shop. Whew!~

No, I was really sick and had the virus! I couldn't leave the BR all day! I know, too much info!
I cancelled a shop immediately after it was assigned to me after I saw the work involved. I hope that was ok. If a certain person was in the store, I was required to leave and then return an hour later. I was not, under any circumstances, allowed to let that person help me. IMHO, it was too much time and would make me look too suspicious.
Hope you are feeling better now.

Several times. If they don't make the guidelines available until after I sign up, then all bets are off.

In fact, today I got a call from Marketforce asking me to take a shop. She had nothing more than the screener questions. No info on reimbursements or guidelines or anything. I told her I would take it (for a higher fee, of course) but that if I didn't like the guidelines or the reimbursement I would be canceling it. She was fine with that.

I have also done this a few times. After I was assigned the shop and reading the guidelines I decided there was no way I was going to do the shop and I contacted the scheduler and said that after reading the guidelines I was not prepared to do the shop. I don't make a habit of it but I have done it a couple of times but always within 10 minutes of being given the shop.
I had to cancel a shop when I realized it was over 100 miles away for $15. It was my fault as I read the name of the town incorrectly but there was no way I was driving that far. Usually if I accept a shop and the guidelines are ridiculous I will take that as a learning experience and not do the shop again. Hey and people do get sick, the weather is dangerous, cars break down, computers become cranky - so yes sometimes shops need to be cancelled.

I also did this one time. It was one of those companies that doesn't give you all the details until after you accept. There were a couple of troublesome details, including the fact that they had given me a bad phone number and the instructions said it was up to me to find the correct number. I cancelled and hope they don't hate me for it as I cancelled within 15 minutes of accepting.
I accepted a "fun mattress shop" for about the same price I make doing an arches shop. After I read the FULL guidelines and saw how much time I would be on site and the amount of narrative they wanted for such a measly shop fee, I emailed the scheduler and politely said that the job does not match the description of the job I bid on and I will not do it.

It was unassigned and I did not get a reply to the email.

Actually, this happened to me too (job was in next state) [same town name] but I was too afraid to cancel! So, I grabbed 3 banks and just bit the bullet smiling smiley
I completely forgot about the time I cancelled an entire route and fired an MSC. I was pretty much just sick of their crap and it wasn't worth dealing with anymore.

This is a two way street. The shopper needs to read the full guidelines and the survey as soon as they get them, to see if the shop is "as advertised." If it is not, feel free to cancel, but do so immediately, to give the scheduler a chance to reassign. If you wait around to cancel, consider yourself obligated to do the shop. Also, if you cancel ASAP, the scheduler/MSC should not penalize you. btw, the scheduler may not be the party to blame for not seeing those killer details up front, so I try to restrain myself from reading someone the riot act when I get ridiculous guidelines. But I do tell them why I will not feel obligated to do the shop once I have seen the full requirements.

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
I try not to do this because I feel like if I took the shop, then I should complete it. There was one weekend when I got the flu and I had to cancel all of my shops. I cancelled them instead of rescheduled them because I wasn't sure when I was going to be feeling up to them.

There are times when I get the guidelines that I am really upset with myself for taking an assignment. But usually if I see that it isn't worth the money, I chalk it up to a learning experience and remember to never take that assignment again. But I go ahead and complete the assignment.
I cancelled once after I accepted because the MSC wanted me to go through another session of shopper training, then brand specific training, then a 30 minute visit, plus intrusive report.

I just cancelled two with the same company. I will probably soon be getting my pink slip with them. I had previously done these shops so didn't notice the few had been lowered - lowered to 0. I decided there was no way I was doing them for reimbursement only - fast food. Anyway I cancelled them.
I too cancelled a whole route and fired the MSC. I was so sick of a certain "shopper advocate" that I wanted to scream. I was getting depressed and my blood pressure was super high. I decided no job was worth what she was putting me through for no reason. (She was arguing with me for using GPS-based electronic devices to record dates and times rather than writing them on paper. And she told me I needed to remove Windows 8 and replace it with Windows XT on my computer.). I don't have time for old, backwards people that need to retire and just want to micromanage for mo good reason. As long as my reports are accurate who cares if I got the time from GPS or looking at my watch and writing it down?

I've canceled two other times. The first was when I read the guidelines it said I had to let the cable company run my credit. No way Jose. That should have been made clear up front.

The second was for Cirrus. When I saw what they wanted, when they were going to pay, etc., again I said . . . Umm, but sorry.

Lol. Sorry, I thought that was funny.

I can do everything this older MSC's website requires in Windows 8.1 with Firefox. Windows XP should never be used on any device connected to the Internet as it is no longer supported and will rooted with a virus in minutes. I have not done anything for this MSC this year. They called me and offered me $9.50 to do a bank shop and it was not a teller shop. I just laughed and told them not to call me unless they had a job offer of at least $15. I have not heard from them again. I see very low paying jobs just sit on the job board.

Basically, a reverse targeted shop? Sounds like a real pain, possibly even more trouble than a targeted shop. I'd have cancelled that too if I didn't know the scenario until after accepting.
What is the point of a reverse targeted shop? Targeted shop I get; I've had a few for the grocery store here.
I've only cancelled one shop in fourteen years. It was a mattress shop and as soon it was assigned, I read the guidelines. They said that as part of the shop, I was to ask the salesperson, "What gives you good sleep?" I found the question creepy and immediately emailed the scheduler to say I did not feel comfortable asking that question on the shop and to please reassign. The scheduler removed the shop from my queue...and gave me two 0/10 scores. I thought it was unfair, but never received a response to my objection.

How do you get a score on a shop that has been removed from your list?
Shouldn't there be nothing to score?

SASSIE allows citations to carry a score and weight, as if you had completed X shops with a score of Y.

I won't do any shop that has been advertised as 'fun' I found out the hard way that we all have different definitions of 'fun.'
