Roxie,
Actually, you are not correct. Organic feed can still include corn and other grains, using 100% organic corn/grain to fatten the cattle up. This corn finishing causes acidosis, the cows are sick when slaughtered. Cows can safely eat some corn/grain as part of their diet, they just can not eat a high concentration of corn/grain and stay healthy.
Smashburger states their "beef is pasture-fed and corn finished" They also use the term "all-natural" which they do not define. It is not fair for you or I to state we know what that means, one way or another. I have been told, at their locations, it means not antibiotics or growth hormones.
As for as GMO, which I try to avoid; GMO crops are altered, some farms prefer it as they can use LESS weed and bug killers, not more.
The healthiest beef is pasture raised and finished, they are not fattened up at the end using any grains. Here is some info from a local farm I buy our grass-fed beef from:
According to a 2009 study conducted by the USDA and Clemson University, grassfed beef is better for human
health than grainfed beef in ten ways:
1. Lower in total fat
2. Higher in beta-carotene
3. Higher in vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol)
4. Higher in the B-vitamins thiamin and riboflavin
5. Higher in the minerals calcium, magnesium, and potassium
6. Higher in total omega-3s
7. Better ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids (1.65 vs 4.84)
8. Higher in conjugated linoleic acid
9. Higher in vaccenic acid
10. Lower in the saturated fats linked with heart disease
