I won't be writing your report....

If you end up choosing not to write the report, contact the regional manager for the brand and report the behaviour at the dealership. The dealership may coach the salesmen to behave this way but the brand, who allowed them to have the franchise, probably will not endorse those tactics. You may also consider contacting the consumer advocate-type reporter of a local new station. Unfortunately, I have found the BBB in our area to be useless.

My very first mystery shop was a new car shop. I did not know any better and told the salesman that I would consider a trade. It took about an hour for the used car salesman to come out to inspect my car and take it for a drive. The trade in price they gave me was outrageous. Now, I tell them I am giving my car to my granddaughter. I was paid $39.00 for this shop and have never found another that paid so high.
I was treated like this at a large Nebraska dealership years ago. It wasn't a shop, but at the time I wished it was! The dealership parked my car out back so I could not find it even if I did bring an extra key!

While I can appreciate not wanting to spend the extra two hours writing up the novel, a complaint to someone, somehow, is in order.
Due to a family emergency I decided not to finish the report. Between being sick myself and having a very sick grandchild, I just don't have time for the endless editing. Therefore, without mentioning anything about a mystery shop I will be contacting Nissan and the manager of the dealership to voice my complaint. The Internet manager has called and left messages four times a day for nine days. The salesman has called several times starting as early as 8:00 am. They are driving me crazy, pestering me. I have not answered any of their calls. I'm putting my big girl panties on tomorrow morning and starting to make some calls of my own. After that, I will consider it harassment if I get even one more call.

Today I Will Choose Joy!

"Finally, whatever things are good, true, noble, lovely, of good report...if there be any virtue, if there be any praise...think on these things." ....It's a command, not a suggestion!
IF you really want the complaint to get some attention, try moving up the food chain, and finding someone fairly high up with the actual car manufacturer, in question. Explain everything, and some heads "should" roll.
I'm sorry to hear about such poor shopping experience. These tactics are old school and amateur.
My full time job is in sales and years ago I sold Financing & Insurance in car dealerships. The title is usually "Business Manager" to the public - F&I Manager internally. Car sales people usually work on an "up" or turn system for potential customers walking into the dealership. On a slow day a salesman may have only have one potential customer per day. I have not taken these shops as I realize they can be time consuming for me for the narrative and wasting the sales persons shot at a potential customer.
If you are really buying a new car the process doesn't not have to take this much time. I have bought cars in less than an hour at a significant discount. (just above or below invoice) It can be fun and quick you just need to do your research and know what you want. Many people don't realize how low the profit margins are on new cars and waste time attempting to negotiate the impossible. When I'm back in the market for a car if the shop fee is high enough I'll take a shop.
Just me to get them to stop calling I would answer and tell them I did buy a whatever brand you were shopping from another dealership of that same brand because of the way u treated me. That may piss them off enough to change their ways but probably not.

Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.
Hobie18,

I felt the same way when I first started. My adult son works retail and did a short stint at a car dealership. He reminded me that being shopped is part of their employment contract. They know ahead of time it is a possibility, so they can choose not to work there if they want. I no longer feel sorry for them losing a potential sale. If they have time to call a sick, disabled person 4x/day x 9 days, I have even less sympathy for them.

iblessyah,

I completely understand your decision. You need to do what you can when you can to save your 'spoons' where you see fit. I will encourage you to do something about this situation as you are able. This man was abusive and should not be allowed to treat anyone in this manner, let alone someone in your situation who needed medical attention. Best wishes.

My keys were held hostage as well and I was seriously looking for a car for myself - not a shop. They knew I had a time limit as well. Guess who did not get my business.
I have done 85 car shops, mostly for Intelli. The pay is low, so I wait for bonus shops to be emailed now. I don't care because I love doing them, most of them. I had an experience that was very unpleasant the other day. Excessive pressure. I wrote about it, too. The editor had their way with it. Said it wasn't objective and edited the parts I described about the jerks who run the place. We are consumers, too. It's hard to draw the line.

Or they ask you what colour you want before they get in to the important information about the car.

I hate to burst your men are pigs theory but I'm a guy and 95% of the new car shops I've done the first question asked was what color.

Now I'm even less convinced that you're a dude.

Seriously, nobody cares that you're offended.
I'm taking the day off to catch up on some reports and to schedule for the next couple of weeks. When the phone rings from the dealership I'm going to take it and get in my two cents. Lol. Pray for those sinners. They are going to need it. Lololol

When I'm wronged, I don't handle it well at all, either. When a dealership tried to screw me over, they felt my wrath in that, for about 4 months, every time someone googled them, my well written complaint and story came up as the very first thing, even before their own website.

And don't get me started on my epic battle with Sprint.

I am a man. I am always asked as the first question what color car I want. If you have studied sales tactics, there is a good reason for that (they want to have you build an emotional attachment to the car, and color helps do that). I always tell them that I want whatever color costs the least. That throws them off their game.

I apologize if I insulted men by saying that I am asked my colour preference early on. I do not think men are pigs. I like all people, men included. I do know that when I go car shopping with my wonderful husband, we are not asked early on about colour. We bought a car in May and I would say that colour choice came up about halfway through the "what are you looking for" discussion. @bgriffin, if I have ever said anything that leads you to believe that I think men are pigs, please let me know what it was. I try to be unbiased toward all people. My feelings are hurt that you think that about me without really knowing me.
Really I think you're taking my post WAY too seriously. smiling smiley
