I need technical help with my report!

Help! I have a report I am working on and I need help! I did a shop that required me to copy a webpage so i could include that information on the report. I had problems doing that. Because it would copy the form but not what I input into the spaces, ie: Name: Sally. It would only copy Name. So, I copied the form over and put the information in it step by step again. I also took light shots of it. Anyway, I need to get the information posted into the report and I am not able to. I either am doing something wrong or I don't know how to do it at all. Either way I am up to my bottom in hot water. Can someone help. I am using Windows 7. Also I am not tech savvy. As you can tell. Thanks. ...Call me crying here no, more incognito...

What I usually do is open up a Word document and in File go to Page SetUp and move all my margins to 0" (Word will complain and I let it fix it to whatever minimum it allows). Now go to the page and you should have something on your keyboard that says something like PrtScn. When I have the image I want nicely centered, I hit that PrtScn. Oh my, it looks like nothing happened---but it did! Now go to the Word doc, right click anywhere on the page and from the selections that pop up, select Paste. Voila.

What do you mean by copying a webpage? Were you supposed to get a screenshot, and you took a photograph instead? Or do you mean that you tried to copy and paste, and the right information didn't show up? Was there some kind of confirmation message that you had to capture? And does this shop involve entering your contact information to see how people respond to an e-mail request? If you still have Internet access and this is the kind of shop I am thinking of, I suppose you could always try writing another message and saying something like, "I am sorry, but I am not sure if I included the right contact information." or "I am having computer problems and am not sure that my last message sent properly. This is what I was trying to find out."

If you mean copy and paste isn't working but you took pictures of what you got, I would try to get into contact with your scheduler and/or technical support at the MSC, and they might possibly accept your pictures by e-mail and/or walk you through how to submit them in some other way. As long as they can see all of the information that they need to be able to view, I do not think it will be a problem.

It sounds like you were highlighting and copying. You needed to capture a screen shot. There are specialized screen shot capture programs. I prefer Snagit (which will also capture videos): [www.techsmith.com]. Windows 8 has a dedicated Snipping Tool. This will tell you how to use it: [windows.microsoft.com] and I think the same tool is in Windows 8 and Windows 10. In general, a "screen capture" tool works better than using PrtScn because you can define the region you want, and in some cases, even tell it to capture as you scroll. Snagit is not free (but has a free trial), but I have used it for almost 15 years and consider it a good investment.

Ok, here is it in a nutshell, I was frazzled when asking for help. I needed to copy and paste the information I wrote on the website I was working on for proof of information.(?!?!?) Anyway, I could not get the copy paste to work correctly. The parts I wrote in on the companies webpage came up blank. Example it would ask for my name and I typed in Sally Smith. My copy paste showed it as Name (No Sally Smith). So, as a back up I did screenshots for proof. But, I cannot figure out how to get my copy paste information that I did spend my time filling out on my own again, to install into the shops report. So, I will do what flash suggests and if that does not work I will contact the scheduler. I do have everything they need just not as they want it.

Did you try a right click, click print, and print it to a PDF format? That usually will save what you typed in unless you are submitted a long narrative, which it will cut off after the block is full.

No, I did right click, click print and not to a PDF format! That was my mistake! Thank you... live long and learn? I thought it was prosper. Not today. LOL. Again, Thanks Ms.Baker! I grew up playing outside until the streetlights came on, not with computers!

To take a screenshot hold down FN key windows key and prtsc key simultaneous. It will save it in your screenshots pics folder automatically.

If you want to capture the whole webpage including above and below what is on the screen, or select an area of the page with a box, edit and add text and save to .JPG I recommend you use the Nimbus plugin:

This is good for those web shops where they want a screen shot of the web page. This will save the entire page and not just what is showing on your screen.

This sounds overly simple and you probably tried this but did you try control print screen (these seems to copy all inputted text), paste into a blank word doc then "save as" pdf file? I have xp and this works for those car web shots, also have to capture time and date at bottom you may have to open date by double clicking time icon til date appears (ghost) but it will capture on control print screen.

Use Shift +PrtScr (usually near the number pad). That copies the webpage. Then paste it into Photoshop (or whatever editor you're using). Crop out the extra stuff, and save as a .jpg

Just for future reference windows 7 has a built in app called the snipping tool that will let you copy/paste any part of the screen and you can even circle items if you want to highlight them it is an easy way to resize pictures and get rid of any metadata just bring the picture up on screen and use the snipping tool and save as a jpg file nice and small. just go to the start menu and type in snipping it will come up also on win 8

I found another fascinating thing. I am running Win 7 so I don't know if it will work for 8 or 10, but I have Dropbox and it has automatically opened two folders, one is "Camera Uploads" which I find annoying and delete repeatedly because I DON'T want my photos on the cloud. The other is "Screenshots". When I press the PrtScn it automatically puts a screen shot in the Dropbox "Screenshots" folder in png format. I can then open and save to whatever format I actually want (and perhaps I could train it to normally save in jpeg format).

Sorry, I'm not following guys. incognito, you're looking for a copy and paste of actual text, not a screenshot (pictures of your screen, as-shown)? The form varies depending on how the website is set up. Or are you directed to upload a "printed" PDF form of the webpage? Or a screenshot?

What exactly are your instructions?

I feel sure the issue already resolved itself one way or the other, Tarantado. I just tagged on the little nicety of PrtScn going automatically to Dropbox as another possible shortcut if someone is looking how to do screenshots in the future.

I understand the situation now. What internet browser are you using? One suggestion to try would be to print the webpage to a PDF format, then copy the webpage text from that.

How? Google Chrome has a built-in "Save to PDF" feature when your 'print' a webpage from there. When you save to PDF, it'll capture and recognize text of everything that would print out if you were to print it on paper (hope that made sense).

I can't recall if Firefox has the ability to easily do something similar without any extra programs or what not.

However, if the project accepts screenshots, this would be the fastest, problem-free solution.

Tarantado, I have Firefox. The program will not accept Screenshots, bummer! That would be such a blessing. So, I could not figure out a way at that time to save as a pdf. I admit that I was a bit frazzled when working on the report.

A simple solution could be to try install and try out Chrome, as the browser has a built-in feature to save webpages the way you need to copy the information for your report.

You can also look into a PDF converter program such as CutePDF that'll be integrated with Firefox. In other words, it'll show up as a printer option, after it's installed.
