Deactivate - why or why not?

My disclaimer - I've shopped about three years, and I've never been deactivated, nor have I deactivated myself. More than once, with more than one MSP, I've been incensed and believed I was wronged. In that case, I attempt to set matters right, then proceed, or I take a break from shopping for the MSP.

Deactivating seems like burning bridges. What if the MSP gets its ducks in a row in the future? I sign-up again? Is deactivating more than a personal statement? Why not just delete emails, and not accept shops?

I agree with you. I just chill out, take a break from the company, delete their emails when they pop up in my box. But sometimes even the worst MSC lands a contract that is truly game changing and if I want or need to be in on the action, then all I have to do is apply for the shops. It gets to the point that the schedulers need every hand on deck and they can't turn you down even if they wanted to do so. I opt to not deactivate.

deleted due to duplicate post...not sure how that happened.

I did deactivate with one because I kept getting sucked in. I don't miss the phone calls, the underpaid work, the uncooperative website and the buck passing. And yes, they may land the the stellar client with an exceptional job. They may also someday pay reasonable fees. They may get a truly professional website. Schedulers may take responsibility or be given authority to make responsible decisions. And pigs may learn to fly.
I do it with forethought. I have only done it with two firms, and soon, will add a third. If the hassle of dealing with the firm outweighs the benefits I get, and I do not see that the hassle will change, I will do it. I have a longer list of ones whose emails I ignore.

edited to add:
There two firms to date, with over more than 400 I am signed with.

One is Freeman, as I had to wait more than 9 months to be repaid, suffer numerous hassles, and personally write to Bill Freeman to get repaid for a $120 shop.

I did the same with Bestmark this week, as many of their editors do not use BM addresses, and I had (for the second time) an issue that involved that, along with the fact that I was effectively accused of not responding to said editor, whose email I never received..and also not having turned in my entire report, when I have screenshots showing I did. When writing to them about this issue, got no support. Since given what they have had in my area are low value shops, and the hassle outweighed that, I asked to deactivate. I am NOT a liar. I own to my mistakes, and expect the same from my business partners. Since shoppers are not allowed to download a full report done for them, screenshots are the only way to keep what you reported. Finally, last summer, this firm called and asked me to take a shop for another MSC that had gotten an account from them and once I did, to give them copies of the paperwork, as they believed their propriety form had been stolen. HELLO? Not my issue. I refused. This combination of items made them no longer tenable to work for, for me.

Nothing as egregious in my world, Dee, particularly the espionage request. I would think the MSP has the wherewithal to obtain the form from another MSP ~ certainly without asking you to be party to it. That was highly inappropriate, to say the least.
This has happened to me (I de-activated), and low and behold, the company gets it right. I called and was re-activated. Everything can be reversed if it wasn't that bad, and enough time goes by. I wouldn't make a habit at de-activating...only when they don't pay.

Live consciously....
