Would anyone be willing to tell me how long they take? There's a couple out there that if I'm in the town, I'm thinking why not.

But I do not want to get stuck with a 2 1/2 hour report. They don't pay enough for a term paper.

It takes me about half an hour to do the reports. On average, I probably spend another half an hour in the store.
When they're bonused, they're definitely worth it.

I agree. About 30 minutes in the store. About 30 minutes to do the report. After I do a given scenario, the subsequent write-ups tend to go faster, probably 20 minutes each.

If anything is going to go wrong it will happen in the store. The report is pretty simple, once you've done a few and get the hang of what they want. You said "If I'm in the town." If your traveling you might want to think about picking up the phone and seeing if you can get a bonus for doing out of town shops for them. You might be surprised.

They take a bit of preparation. I am normally out of the store in 15 minutes, unless I get sidetracked. The report time, (which for me includes updating my spreadsheet and uploading the receipt) takes less than 30 minutes.

A tip, which you may or may need, you do not have to actually print the evaluation form to get the security code. Just do print preview, and the code will be visible. I print as little as possible.

The "print preview" trick for seeing the security code works with Chrome. It does not work with Firefox or the latest version of IE (whatever it is called now). I don't know about Safari or other browsers.

I don't use Chrome. I use Firefox, and print preview works just fine. Always has, with each version. Maybe the issue is with your printer?

I print out the first page of the report containing the code. On the back I print out a cheat sheet I've developed that has all the questions I need to get an answer to. After the shop I answer the questions and jot down anything else I want to remember. Staple the store receipt and any other documentation to it,then file it away.

There are several different home improvement stores that get shopped. Which store are you doing?

If it's the store beginning with the letter "L" the report is a piece of cake. I always get carried away with the amount of time in the store because I really groove to hardware stores and the like. I got a phone call from one of the MS company senior citizens asking how I happened to be in the store for over two hours and then she reminded me that the reimbursement was a lot less than the chain saw I bought.

I, too love a great hardware store. They are fun!
2 hours...me more like 3. Single woman who doesn't have a problem asking guys why they choose tools or anything else.

Chainsaws still freak me out, but I'm in love with my sawsall tonight. Cleaned up branches in around 30 minutes. It will take 2 hours to drag the branches to the nearest burn pile.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago. Did a hardware shop where I picked up an item ordered on-line, had to leave and then had to go back in to return it. Left the store, sat in my car 15 minutes and then went REAL shopping and picked up a car load of bricks for my patio project. During the 'shop" I had to have tunnel vision so I didn't get distracted by all the other stuff.

The shop itself was funny. I ordered a cat litter box and on the website it was grey. The one I got when I picked it up was bright lime green. When the asked why I was returning it, I said " IT"S GREEN!!!". The employee had to laugh when she looked at it, it was really an ugly color. I told her it was grey on the website and she agreed that the color was odd.

I was only worried about doing the job. Now I will have to buy tile so the guest bathroom will finally look good.
Oh stinkies , now I have to ask the scheduler to assign that town again. Great prices on tile and still can get the blue box done as well.

My first one I did of these was a nightmare. The store was really busy and I had to ask for help 3 different times (each time was assured that if I'd go back to the area I needed help in someone would be right there only to wait and wait and not have anyone come) before I was finally able to get help. I was in the store an hour and not because I wanted to be! The second time I did it I was in and out in about 20 minutes.

Here's a tip: If It's the assignment where you have to find an out of stock item, flooring is a good area to go to. There's a good chance there will be at least one pallet they've recently sold out of and it's an easy out for why you're not going to buy today.
