Its interesting how many really low paying/high effort/time suck shops are out there. I've gotten to the point where I like to watch them to see how long (and how much bonus) it takes before they're snatched up off the boards.
One example... There's a compare/contrast dealership shop available in my area. Go to a dealership, pose as a customer. Get the sales pitch, take a test drive if necessary.... Go to a competitor dealership and do it all over again. Then, fill out a detailed report on each experience, including extra questions to compare and contrast the two.
Pays $15.
For me, $15 isn't worth it to do one dealership shop. I figure I'm going to spend a minimum of an hour in the dealership itself and an hour writing the report. That comes out to minimum wage, best case scenario. So, the shop they are currently proposing pays, best case, $3.75/hour.
I'm not knocking low-paying shops in general. Lord knows I'll take a $5 or $6 shop if I know it's going to be simple, on my way to something else, has some otherwise added value, etc. But even the MSC's "sales pitch" for this job makes it sound like a lot of work. No, thank you.
