$70,000 or more in annual income

If you are shopping for cars or other items for real and you are making $70,000 tell me honestly you would not write a report and take the money. It is like going to the dealership and picking up money that someone lost and you see it on the ground. You would bend over and pick it up in a heart beat.

You can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want ..Zig Zigler

That's basically my approach to mystery shopping in a nutshell lol. I just want to add some value to the stuff I already do.

The OP was right though. I don't think anyone who makes that much would work for several hours for $20 unless there were serious perks. And I would argue no one else should either. I guess if you REALLY need money and you don't have/can't get any other gigs that day, you do what you gotta do. But part of being successful is knowing when to say no and use your time wisely in an "value added" manner.

The question of having a certain income to play the part on a shop is questionable to me. You can have a six figure income without having any social graces whatsoever. Just because you're not making a certain income this year doesn't mean you haven't in the past or won't in the future. Anyone who does mystery shopping must have some level of acting ability, so who's to say you can't play the part? And what does making $70,000 mean anyway lol? I've never heard that used as any kind of marker of "you've really made it" haha.

I got an offer for a Cadillac shop and it said I was in the top 5% when it comes to certain criteria- I have a Master's degree and I guess a magical household income. But I drive a Ford Focus and I can barely afford that lol.

No shopper makes that much money, pretty ridiculous guidelines.

I do, but I won't take a job (route, usually) that makes me less than $15/hour. I know I make more than that at my day job, but mystery shopping is for a little extra spending money, doing something fun.
My husband and I make well over $70,000. I'm not sure how someone can make an absolute statement that anyone who makes over $70,000 would not take this shop for $20. I've been doing this since February and have done over 500 shops. I've earned (without reimbursements) almost $8,000. My husband just started last month. We are both retired and have the time to shop. It pays for stuff not in the budget. It gets us out of the house. I tend to wait for bonuses, but I will try something that looks interesting if it only requires pictures. Uploading pictures is pretty quick and easy for me. I probably won't do another one for $20, but I will give it a shot this once. We all shop for different reasons and have different methods. To each his own. I'm happy with my reasons and my methods. They work for me.
So far I have printed out over forty pages of guidelines and that does not include the money I will spend on color ink to print the photo guidelines. Considering I had a nice hotel shop (for another company of course) over the weekend with virtually no narrative, no photos and three small interactions ($148 value), I don't know why I continue to take the low pay from Intellishop. I have been working for them since 2009 and sometimes there tends to be more quantity than quality.
was able to get the guidelines for these shops. Not worth doing for less than $100.

Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.

Nope. I just bought two cars in the last six months. I have no interest in writing a report about it for $20 a piece. Writing that report takes time.

I will cut coupons to save $20, all day long though. Way faster and immediatey savings realized.
Once I accepted a shop for a hero citation. Then the Scheduler put it in the comments incorrectly after I successfully completed the shop. He listed it as a 1 instead of a 10 and screwed up my rating for months. I could never get anyone to fix it. I had to consistently get 9's and 10's for months with that company and yet my rating overall was at a 5, it seemed forever because of this error. So much for being rewarded! No hero citations, only cash on the barrel head!
Looks like you can corner the market on these shops...let us know how many you were able to tolerate.
I know at least 2 shoppers who make that much $ or more. One is a bored housewife w/a rich husband. The other one likes to travel on extravagant vacations w/his boyfriend so MS is xtra $ for them.
I have a hero citation. It's never helped me getting more work. It has helped, when one day I wrote the truth about a shop that honestly was bad. I'll admit I didn't write the narrative properly. I'll admit I allowed my emotions to get the better of me and that's the way I wrote the report. That particular report was rejected. The hero cite, keeps my average up.

Live your life in such a way that when your feet hit the floor in the morning; the devil shudders...And yells OH #%*+! SHE'S AWAKE!
I have accepted MANY shops with hero citations. None of the citations are visible to me. How do you find them?
Ceasesmith, To see if you have a Hero Citation look for the comment in your shop log: I am not sure about other platforms but in SASSIE there is a comments box just above the main job log box. It is just below the field that one clicks to generate an invoice of paid shops. It is usually yellow. It can be accessed via the Profile button and is where the Shopper can toggle whether you want to receive emails or deactivate oneself.
Looks like Intelli-shop is on Comodo site, not SASSIE. I cannot find mention of hero citations anywhere. Thanks.

I don't know. That's what my Intelli-shop log in has always said, secure Comodo Site.
Comodo is an internet security company. Comodo does not appear in any way when I access the Intellishop website. Intellishop uses the Sassie MS platform. Comodo is not an MS platform. It is an internet security company - maybe the one you or your internet provider uses.

Shopping Southeast Pennsylvania, Delaware above the canal, and South Jersey since 2008
In the past I was told I have had to follow up to get the hero citation that was offered up front. If you earned a hero citation you may have to follow up and they will probably be happy to give it to you. It does not cost them a thing and they are happy to resolve shops.
I completed two of these audits yesterday. I knew it would be lower pay for the time spent going in but I wanted to get some experience with hospitality audits. The first one took 3.5 hours due to some hotel wifi issues and the second one took 2.4 hours. We were were not supposed to rely on the wifi but just do hard copy anyway. So I learned my lesson there.

Uploading the photos took way too long but it was no fault of the MSC. All in all it was way too much time spent but I paid my dues and learned a lot.

The most amazing thing happened today when the Field Staff Coordinator emailed me to ask how the audit went! That's new too me. I explained there was a problem with the logic of one of the questions about ottomans. They want a photo if the ottoman is not there. Huh? I also told him I thought the pay was too low for the high level requirements and the amount of time to upload everything just right.

He wrote me back that he would be glad to help submitting the report to get around the ottoman problem which was nice. But, I had already submitted the reports.

So ... between the many color pages printed out, mileage, time spent, etc., not a big money maker for me but if more show up I could definitely be more efficient just like any other new assignment that gets better every time you do it.

This is what I was thinking when I took the certification. After a few they would get easier, similar to gas station audits. Although there are only a handful in my area. Not really worth it, unless they were ongoing..even with one less than a mile from my house. I took the test but did not request. Maybe they will bonus....
This is why I feel sorry for schedulers and am glad I am not one. Can you imagine being the person who has to try to schedule this? I think it would be very hard to schedule. The only people that I think might do it might be the spouse who stays at home and is married to someone who is earning $70000.

"Evolve thyself and lose all hate...." Orphaned Land
I emailed my scheduler two days before my assigned hotel audits (four scheduled in two days) and very respectfully asked for mercy. I took responsibility for taking on too much at one time, especially with the crazy weather where I am, it is getting harder to take jobs on the road. Anyway the scheduler cancelled all of my hotel shops within a couple of hours without even replying. No threats, punishment or lowering of my rating. The next day I completed two similar audits at car dealerships, requiring twelve photos, four pages of guidelines and no narrative, at the SAME PAY. This is why I continue to work for Intellishop. Even though the pay is low sometimes, they are more respectful than some other companies. I have a good reputation with them, but I am in no way going to take on a hotel audit for $20.
