I think the local car dealerships are starting to talk....

I have done over 20 dealership shops, mostly on the big N brand. Yesterday, I had the very weird feeling that the girl knew what I was. I think it's my own vehicle. It sticks out like a sore thumb, a Red Kia Soul with funny personalized plates that you can't miss. The last 2 shops for the big N, I had some very strange looks and behavior when they saw me show up, they acted rather distant. I'm thinking that car is getting a little too famous. Or maybe I just need a vaca cuz I'm getting jaded. Either way, I'm starting to change my story and park further away, haha. Anyone else feel like you are water cooler chat material?

The problem I've run into with car dealership shops is that so many of them in my area are owned by one company, so their computer system shows when I've been at other dealerships. I believe that they mark us in the system as shoppers after they get their reports and deduce who was the shopper.

Yep, I agree with MJT. It's most likely not your car but the shared database that's your problem. Also one of the reasons I stopped doing new car shops for the most part.

In my area the same guy bought 7 out of 9 dealerships. He's become a monopoly and people are going farther and farther away to try to get a better deal on a vehicle.

One of the oil change places marks you in their customer file. The manage knows who every shopper is before they show up by looking at the file and appointments.

I still don't understand why, if they know who you are, they would act "distant." This is the opposite of what I would expect, yet it's the kind of thing people report anytime they fell they've been made.
