New BP night audit

This one just showed up for next quarter. When I asked, I was told it's unrevealed and you take a few pictures in the dark of a BP station from across the street.
Hi, Homeland Security. Nice to meet you.

I just tried to sign up for these but the dates are not showing in the drop down menu area. If you use your cell phone, then you can do it without being noticed,
I've done a REVEALED shop... WITH the vest... and had a customer call the police.

My real issue with these is that you're pretty limited by when darkness starts and when the station closes. You really can only make short routes out of them. I can't seem to figure out how to make $9 worth it for any more than the few around my house.

HA! I had a customer a few months ago leave because he thought something was wrong with the gas.

Customer: Why are you taking pictures? Is there something wrong with the gas???
Me: No. It's just an audit of the store. Doesn't have anything to do with the gas at all.
Customer: Are you sure? I'm worried about the gas now.
Me: Seriously, nothing to do with the gas. I'm just taking pictures to make sure all of their branding is correct
Customer: Nah, I'm not buying gas here, I'm going somewhere else

That's why I don't wear my tin foil hat to audits! It just scares the customers.

The date for this new batch seems to be January. Darkness comes here before dinner time.

I just signed up for a few of these. There doesn't seem to be any instructions. Just a document that is a letter of authorization.
I signed up for the only one close enough to make sense for the $9 fee and no reimbursed gas. I know the location well and know that I can park in a parking lot across the street to take photographs. You can go anytime after 30 minutes after sunset until 30 minutes before sunrise. Most of the stations in this area are open 24 hours, so I have plenty of time, but they are too far apart to do for that fee. Some are close together, but not close to me, so someone is going to do well with those. They start of January 2nd.

I talked to the scheduler about these and they said they want photos of their new lighting system. That is the reason for the night photos.
I just signed up for three close to my house. The website says guidelines will be available on December 23rd. I've only done one other job for the MSC. However, when I talked to one of the schedulers about that past job, she tried to talk me into a route for that client. For those saying the $9 fee doesn't make sense for a route, can you ask for a bonus or travel $ to do a route? Or is the MSC one of those companies that doesn't negotiate on that sort of thing?

I used to see a life coach pretty regularly.... back when they were called bartenders.

This MSC, I have found, is pretty easy to work with. The worst they can say is "no," but, even then, they'll be nice about it. It never hurts to ask.

Routes for this client are fairly lucrative in my area. And they can be renegotiated every quarter if you decide it wasn't worth it. I would a do a route but I would ask for enough money per shop to make the route worthwhile to you. Like Meghan said, the worst that can happen is they say no.

If the job is not currently bonused, you will get nowhere asking for an additional bonus. There are so freakin' many managers there that nobody you talk to has any control over anything. They just say no. Sometimes they'll "write it up and see" but that never gets anywhere. I've done thousands of jobs for this company and for the most part, it's very difficult to become more than a number to them. Maybe others have a different experience.

If the shop doesn't get taken at $9, it will probably get an auto-incentive (their terminology) of $1 as the deadline nears and then keep going up, although they also have a habit of extending the deadline and not offering an incentive. When the real deadline approaches, the offered incentive will jump for any that are left. For places in really out of the way locations, the incentive may approach $100 just like it does for the normal Green and White audits. Today I was called and asked what my number was to do some of the Green and White audits by December 22nd. I imagine that the same thing will happen with the night audits, but they have no experience with this so the time it takes for the incentives to go up will be longer. There are fewer people who are willing to go out and take photos in the winter darkness (and some locations close at 9 or 10 or 11 PM). I think that the overall supply of willing shoppers will be lower for the night shops.

I'm inclined to agree, Myst. Though these just went live and almost 20% of them have been taken already in my area. I'd be surprised if they have many left over to incentivize. People will use them as filler.

The only ones left in my city are in bad neighborhoods where I would not want to be at night.
It gets dark early now so I can see some part timers picking these up on the drive home from work.

When I was new to mystery shopping, I did an unrevealed photographic audit of a gas station. At least attempted to. Some people happened to see me taking pictures from afar and went in and told the guy in the store. He ran out and confronted me and was getting very angry. Because I was discovered, the MSC never paid me for the visit. It wasn't even my fault, I was actually a victim of circumstance. The reason the guy was freaking out was because the conditions of everything was horrific and the branding/franchise requirements were not met on any level. I've never worked for that particular MSC again, as they do not pay well and did not give me any leeway. They also charged me $2 for emailing me about a simple question on a different shop's survey. Really, $2 for someone to type out a 2 minute email?

Like most new projects I have an interest in, I test the water before plunging in. I took 3 of these within a couple of miles from home after speaking with a scheduler. He assured me there are only 3 pictures from across the street and yes/no answers. There is also an authorization letter in case I am spotted. I don't normally work at night but these seem like drive-by shops and close to home and it does get dark around 4:30 or 5:00. We'll see.
I took a few of these and anticipate them being simple. I have, however, steered clear of the highway ones where it wouldn't be feasible to take a photo from across the street. I'll test them out with the "in town" ones first to see exactly what's involved before I take any highway locations. A few years ago I did several for this station where all I had to do was take photos of their new lights up close etc. The fee was low, but equal to the work involved. It was revealed though with a letter. I think these might be similar.

I signed up for a few of these in my area, as they are convenient for some of the errands that I run on a regular basis. The requirements are available now (or were a few minutes ago, when I checked/signed up for a few).
I picked up quite a few of these. They remind me of the unrevealed Phillips 66 shops (different MSC) as far as photos, except they will be even easier since there will be no purchases or customer service evals. In January it will probably still be getting dark early, as others have mentioned, although personally I don't mind working later into the evening/night as long as the location is open. The guidelines aren't available until 12/23, but if the survey that's on the View Evaluation link now is correct, the report will just involve uploading the pictures and answering a few yes/no questions.
