Has anyone done a revealed HR Block audit?

I just saw them listed for January and they don't pay too much but it is not like having your taxes done . I think they were done last year

I think the fee went up after a wile last time. You have to print out the survey for each location. It's easy to do, easier than most cel phone/accessory shops. I wouldn't travel out of my way to do them. Best if the location is near or along a route or your normal commute.

They are easy to do, just follow the quetionare. I did a few last year. I won't go crazy for them. I would do them if I can fit it in my planed route for the day.

I did them the past 2 years for $10. each. They are pretty quick and no trouble at all.
It also seems like if you have more than one in your surrounding area, when you assign for one shop they others disappears. Bummertongue sticking out smiley

The audit consist of making sure the "office" is equip to handle privacy info for customers filing there tax returns, even down to the color of the rug.

As a former employee of HR Block and independent tax preparers, I would say privacy is a great thing. I refused to file my taxes with my last tax preparation employer. Glad I did. I know more about someone that I had a falling out with well over 6 years ago. Why, because the guys who own the service are gossips and can't keep their lips zipped. See those two in a restaurant, I will know all your beeswax, I won't even need to mention you're name, if they think I play with you.

Obviously I haven't done one for a few years. The base fee was $30 and, AFAIK, with the same company.

I did one when I was a newbie at evaluating in the beginning of March. It was $20 and relatively close by. I'd make sure you don't plan on doing a tax prep shop there within the next few years, though. I got my tax prep shop done at $75 on the same day, which was at a different location of course.

The one I did I called ahead to make sure someone was there, but when I got there, the secretary was MIA for at least a half hour. It was not lunch time, so I am not sure where she was. Of course, nothing about customer service was on the survey, so luckily she got a free pass. She was acting nervous the whole time, though, of course. It was relatively easy and took about 15-20 minutes as I remember. As I didn't get paid much when I first started, I thought this shop was a godsend when it came up. I'd do it for at least $20 again.

They will open the scheduling up after a bit, but make sure you make the first one real close to where you live or need to be otherwise. They are pretty quick if the office isn't slammed.
The one I did last year was easy, but the receptionist made me wait for someone in authority- which was quite a while because they were with a taxpayer

I did a couple last year, but they were more than $10. I'll wait until they go up. They weren't hard, but $10 just isn't enough. I'm getting picky in my old age. For some reason I'll do gas stations for 9 + 5, but anything else needs to be a bit higher before I'll bite.
If all goes well, it's 15 minutes start to finish. Go on a weekday in the AM. If you wander into a shop and there is only one preparer and they have a customer, you will need to wait or come back.
I did two a couple of years ago. The first one was terrific, very cooperative people who showed me what I needed, stayed out of my way when necessary. I got the job done, everyone was professional. I stayed away from customers and believe I blended in well. The next one was a nightmare. They didn't want to allow me to do it, but when I went to leave they hemmed and hawed for more time. No cameras, ok cameras, no customers, just the windows.... At that point the clock was ticking, if they were not going to allow me to do it, let me out of here. Finally the manager finished making a dozen calls and tells me I can proceed. Then he followed me around and asked a million questions. I kept thinking, 'you should have gone with your gut and left earlier."

Speaking of the gas stations for 9 + 5, one here (in not too bad of neighborhood) that is on the boards had a shooting the other night (that was one of three that night, I think). Things are getting bad around here and it does not matter where you are.

I don't play games. They accept the audit right away or I tell them I will leave and report to corporate that they refused. I then state that I CANNOT return if they refuse me. I start walking toward the door and they will blink and allow the audit. Don't give them a chance to start playing the game of, "I need to call someone to get permission." or more dire, "Wait till my owner gets here. He's driving here."

They either allow it or they don't. PERIOD. give them no time to play games. Smile and let them know that you are just as happy to walk out and say it was refused and make certain to get the information of the person refusing.
I worked as a tax accountant in public accounting years ago. I would try and take the audits prior to the end of January. All businesses have to have their W-2's out by the end of the month. Most don't get them out until at least mid-late January because there is month, quarter AND year end books to close before W-2's can be completed. Plus the IRS is usually slow in releasing availability of current forms and e-file, so most places can't file your taxes until later in the month - and possibly even into February (like last year). So tax prep places will start getting really busy the first week of February which may cause headaches for anyone trying to do an audit.

Just my nickel's worth of free advice.....

I used to see a life coach pretty regularly.... back when they were called bartenders.
Wow, I did these for $20-25 before. I remember, last year, as soon as I took one, the others were gone. However, a few weeks later more appeared and I was able to take another.

There was one year, they were all at $25 a piece and I was able to assign them all. It made it very easy, because it was wash, rinse, repeat.....
i see these on the board for $10. not taking them for that price but i'll probably request a few for 25. is it just a few photos?
Last year, it was just 2-3 photos. It is pretty simple, you just sometimes have to wait for a person in charge to become available.
The tax shops are out now also. There are more screening questions to access before qualifying for the assignment. BTW, what is --------->"the optional service fees such as Peace of Mind"?confused smiley.
I've done these for a few years now, and they paid much higher than $10. Easy-peasy, except when I did one at a Walmart store and had to wait almost 30 minutes for the employee to finish up with a customer. I won't do these for $10.
I did these 3 years ago and the fee was $30. They took about 20 minutes on site and I think there were 3 pictures involved. So typical for the MSC's to low ball. I would not do them for $10. If I am refused an audit or there are multiple phone calls involved because of a paranoid employee I would be polite but I would leave and give them the information sheet. Our time is valuable also. Only one time was I refused and when I politely explained they had that option but it would be reported to corporate they changed their tune very quickly.

It's on the client's web site. Just search for it. Research.
I still have a problem with the legitimacy of the "prepare your taxes shops". Questions screen you out from doing business taxes ... so what mystery shopper doesn't treat their mystery shopping income as a business? How do they count their mystery shopping income as an independent and how to they deduct expenses if they aren't running it as a business?
I did them a few years back for $40. Last year I bit the bullet and accepted one for $25. I will certainly not do them for $10.
Yeah, that happened to me. I was going to do a few right in my area, one across the street from my house, but after I accepted the first one, the rest disappeared.
