Phone Shops

I normally don't do phone shops, but I accepted one a couple of weeks ago because the pay was more than normal. Since I conducted the shop, the company I was evaluating has called me almost every day to follow-up and try to make a sale. It's borderline harassment. I'm not interested in speaking to them if I'm not getting paid, so I've been ignoring their calls. It's starting to get out of control and I'm tempted to answer and break my cover so they will leave me alone. I don't think I'll ever do a phone shop again, but I don't want to harm my relationship with the company I did the shop for. How should I handle this?

I always provide a fake phone number just for this reason. I use a number which I will be able to repeat if they ask me to repeat it.

My advice is to tell them that you decided to buy a phone from a different provider because your spouse found out that they get a discount. No need for any further calls.

Phone number blocking. *60

ETA: I guess I should explain what that means... I pick up my phone and get a dial tone. Then dial *60. My phone? provider? someone allows me to block a set number phone numbers who will get a message that says 'your call cannot be completed at this time' or something similar. They'll get the hint.

Sorry, I guess I should be more specific. I wasn't evaluating a phone sales company (verizon, at&t etc.) I called a company on the phone and spoke to a representative about a service they provided. I was not allowed to block my number, and receiving 1 follow-up call was expected and part of the evaluation.
Something similar happened to me a few years ago. The rep did not call within the expected time frame. She called about a month later.

She asked for the fake name I gave her. So, I knew who it was. I just said, “I’m sorry, there’s no one here by that name.”

She apologized and never called again.

If you are using a smart phone, you can block numbers in the contact section. Otherwise, I would tell them not to call you again.
I had a car dealer salesperson who followed up a couple of times. I just told her I decided not to buy a car.

For the future, you can get a Google Voice number for free, and don't set it up to ring to any phone. That's how I have mine, so when they call and leave voicemails, I get an email and just go to the Google Voice page and listen to them, or see a transcription of them. Then if you see the same person contacting you over and over, and you don't need to call them back, it's as easy as deleting an email or an IM. I have also saved the ones where I was required to report back to the MSC whether the person contacted me back or not, in case the MSC follows up later to ask about it.
