For You Experienced Hotel Shoppers

I have started shopping hotels with several companies and I have gotten great feedback on my evaluations. I am semi-retired and my husband and I love to travel so I have been concentrating on hotel shops.
My question is, what can I expect as I build a reputation with these companies? Do experienced shoppers make more on these shops than what is listed on the job boards? Do companies pay to fly their top shoppers to hotels? Other perks to being a great, dependable shopper?

On rare occasions I might be able to get a higher fee for hotels that what's posted, but I wouldn't count on that. I do often get the maximum travel allowance, however. Once you have a history of successful lengthy reports, you may find other, smaller MSCs that will pay more for your abilities as well.

That said, I think it took me years before I was getting the best assignment in the hotel world. It doesn't happen overnight.

They will call you or text you for work. They save the best jobs for you. Sometimes, they will email you.

With the exception of Coyle and maybe 5D, most of the jobs are never posted. For the most part, if the fee is posted, that's probably what you will get.

In some cases, yes. In other cases, we are already traveling and add something to our list. Example, if I am headed to the Caribbean, I might pick up work somewhere in Florida.

Status with the brands, free nights, upgrades, bulging waistlines, etc. Basically, you can shop to enhance your lifestyle. I do lots of things that I would not normally do, such as order bottle service, room service, fly all over, drink ridiculously expensive cocktails, etc.
I do some hotel shops for ACL, usually when I have other jobs scheduled in the area. They are reimbursement only, but it ends up being a free night away. I don't find the report to be overly difficult.

GMooneyhan: Thanks for the heads up about ACL's hotel shops.....I've just started doing shops for them this year and would not mind doing one of theirs...especially since they have a handful in my area.

Silver certified (since 2009) and willing to do shops all around the greater Chicago, NW Indiana, and Southern Wisconsin areas (including airports!.
