Apartment Manager Doesn't Answer the Phone

What is the standard protocol for this situation: I have an apartment shop scheduled for Saturday. I am required to make a recorded call to set up an appointment first. However, after having called four times over a four hour period (all during office hours), I have only reached voice mail. Of course, if I leave a message and the manager calls me back, the call won't be recorded. At the same time, there has to be a limit to the number of calls I need to make, yes? I know I'll try a couple more times - including tomorrow. But, at what point, do I contact the scheduler, etc.?

That's so frustrating.

Without using the recording phone number, call and find out when she's working.

Is this Ellis and is Saturday the first due date? If the answer to both is yes, they will probably want you to try over several more days then give you the okay to ask for the manager by name. They regularly extend due dates. Why the set them up for two days later is beyond me. The exception would be if there is a rush to get the job done, they may let you ask for them tomorrow.

Contact your scheduler to get permission to leave your number. When you get the call back, make an excuse to end the call quickly saying you will call right back. Confirm the manager will wait a minute for your call. Then call back on the recorded line. You can say your driving and need to pull over, your pot is boiling over, UPS just arrived, etc. I just completed an assignment where I had called eleven times. Stay with it, and you'll be successful. When in doubt, ask your scheduler.
Thanks all.... I do have the manager's office hours as they are listed on the recording and she should definitely have been available. I will try again mid-morning, but if I don't get through, I'll have to contact my scheduler... I'm new enough that I'd just assume play by the rules. smiling smiley

Pretty typical with apartment-shopping. You have to get creative. I like the call-back idea. "I have a bad connection, let me call you right back."

With Ellis, I had a strange situation with apartment shopping once. I found myself parked in a garage that was within an apartment that was the list. I had pretty much resigned myself to not being able to do complete this shop. I was doing jury duty and their garage was beneath this luxury apartment high rise. I was unsuccessful with contacting the person previously, but asked for a tour after being let out early from jury duty. Imagine my surprise when I found the employee I'd been trying to call for more than a week. I let Ellis know I had a tour with the all elusive employee, and they asked me to write it up as a report. I'm not suggesting you do what I did, but wanted to emphasize these shops require thinking outside of the box.
