Yikes! My Timer went off during my shop!

I did not realize that the timer on my iPhone was set to only one minute. I was having a discussion with a banker and after a minute, the timer began to beep! I panicked and couldn't turn it off for a few seconds. I hope the banker did not realize it was a timer that was beeping. I told him I had just gotten the phone connected to Bluetooth and he seemed to be satisfied with the reply. When you guys time a shop, do you use the "timer" or the "stop watch" feature?

Your stop watch feature is the way to go. It won't beep on you.

Mystery shopping around Georgia.
I utilize a timer app when a shop requires I be on scene for a required amount of time. I set it to vibrate mode. It is always in my hand while on a shop, so I feel it vibrating.

But, if the timer ever went off and the target could hear it I would just laugh it off - and say it was to remind me of something like taking a prescription, having to call the kids, etc.

I've never had to time a bank shop either except when I arrived and when I left. I use a timing app also.
I take a screenshot of my phone when I am done, and GV in the beginning.

Bubba, I like the meds excuse. I'm going to use it for shock value.

It is not a good idea to make yourself memorable.
I would not think any sorts of beeps or buzzers or chimes or music going off these days would make you memorable. I cant remember the last time I was somewhere with none...what a concept! no electronic noise!. No need to make an excuse other than I am sorry and turn it off.

Trying to say or do things for shock value while performing a shop will make you memorable in most cases.
I am having a difficult time understanding why "taking meds" would be of shock value. It is not an uncommon occurence.

Exactly! Plus I understand one of the things that gives away mystery shoppers is the tendency to over-explain yourself. In this case, ask yourself if you always feel obligated to explain to a complete stranger why your gear is beeping. If not, don't do it during a shop either. smiling smiley
I have never had this happen either. But I don't think it would be a big deal. Just say it is a reminder that you have to pickup your child in 30 minutes - your shop is not going to take that long. Or some other reasonable excuse. We are so technologically geared in this society that unless you were applying for a bank loan or meeting with an attorney, most people are going to think that is annoying but they will accept your excuse.
I use the Shop It! app, and a spare cell phone just for voice recording for really long ones.
Agree with Sandyf, just apologize and turn it off. No need for explanation. Most people don't really care why your beeper is going off.
