Surprised what I saw on the wall at a hotel...

I was at the front desk enquiring about prices at Microtel Inn, (for future stay) when I saw a sign 8x10 award on the wall, it said, "Mystery Shopper Award Program" and this hotel had apparently won the award... I tried not to stare at the award..I looked further into it and found this: Microtel: "Quality Excellence Winners with scores from the Mystery Shopper Program and Franchise Quality Inspection Program among the brand’s best.".... so this hotel is shopped and has a program in place.

I was not aware they were shopped. Has anyone ever shopped Microtel and how was your experience?

I've seen a similar plaque at Kwik Trip gas stations in the upper Midwest--at some locations posted in the managers office and others on the wall behind the counter

Not a sign, but I was doing a bank shop and a customer asked the greeter who did their mystery shopping.

I did that hotel once, it was the place where a couple engaged in "mating behavior" in the stairwell next to our room. Interesting report to write up.

Jeez...that's still pretty nervy of the MSC to ask you to be ok with not getting paid so they could stay in business. I'm glad you didn't lose much!

Yes, the owner sent an email to everyone begging them not to give up on him and I fell for it. This was back when I was trying to establish myself and didn't know the companies who offered much nicer hotels. And I truly felt he would follow through. It stung to be out money and time, but it's led to other jobs in a roundabout sort of way. So all's well that ends well.

Wyndham has some pretty terrible brands under their name and Microtel is just one. I'm good not knowing who shops them.

I actual prefer most wyndham brand hotels and I am a diamond member for their rewards program. They have some decent economical properties like mant days inn or super 8s. They do have a few dogs such as travelodge and knights inn. Microtel has not been bad in my opinion. The rooms are tiny okay micro but very clean. The beds are comfortable. Also do to my diamond status I get free upgrade to king suite or queen suite depending upon availabilty so I get whats considered a average size room anywhere else with a fee extras like fridge flat screen microwave. I believe that at one time Microtel was really bad but they have updated in recent years and are nicer than some of the super 8s and even days inns i have stayed at. Unfortunately even mid economy are starting to get pricer around $70 a night after taxes. So I have started staying at places on Airbnb which can be steals.

Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.

Yes I had done some overnight audits, basically. There were some short answers with minor narratives. This was over 6 years ago. They were close and simple enough, I could go home and arrive back early in the morning to finish the shop, if I did not want to stay overnight. They had some payment issues, but eventually caught up before shutting down. I heard I was one of the lucky ones. Whew!

Ironically I saw a plaque on the wall of a post office proclaiming their 100% mystery shopper score today!
They then proceeded to bomb on many things.

I had the same thing happen at a McD's. Drove away knowing that that banner would be coming down soon. Then the MSC denied the report because I used a credit card. Whoops. Guess it was their lucky day.

Funny that you mentioned that couple within the stairway. I actually stayed in a Microtel last night, and did my best to focus on writing 5 reports while hearing my neighbors in the room next to me yelling "Oh yeah, oh yeah"" for about 45 minutes last night! I instantly thought of you, thinking "What if Cettie was in the same building as me right now hearing this?"

I stayed in a Microtel once. Had amazing sex in the hallway while some goat woman looked on. She kept jotting down notes like she was trying to get tips from us or something.

Don't feel badly about that. I'm sure the McD would have challenged the report no matter what you did.

Now scheduling travel shops for the day after Christmas through mid-January.

You know what couples who have been married for a long time refer to as hallway sex? They walk past each other in the hallway and say, "F you," to each other as they walk past.

And speaking of seeing something on the wall in a hotel that surprised you, I am really glad you were referring to a plaque near the front desk and not something in the hallway, stairwell, or room.
