What happens to cashiers who fail tobacco/Alcohol compliance?

I've done around 40 Tobacco/Alcohol compliance shops. I've only, caught two cashier's who allowed me to purchase cigarettes without ID. I just wonder what happens to them? Do they get taken to court, fired, or just retrained? Some of these companies require that you keep the cigarettes for at least 6 months. Is it in case they want you to mail them for evidence?

We perform these shops/audits with a blind conscience towards how the results are used. The time to contemplate our impact, assessing our ability to fairly perform, is before we apply for an opportunity. Once committed to a project, I refuse to concern myself with how my honest responses are used. If I discover my potential results will bother me I would no longer apply for those opportunities.

I'm sure that every company handles it differently. However, I did witness this years ago from the retail end.... The cashier in question was written-up and retrained. He was then sent back to work with the knowledge that a second offense would lead to his termination. On the flip side, a cashier caught by an ATF sting was immediately terminated and faced legal charges. If a certain business fails too many ATF stings, it is heavily fined and loses its license to sell said products.

I see this compliance audits as a favor to the failing cashier and business. It's much better to be caught by a shopper than the authorities.

Much, much better. I saw a friend of mine caught in a "sting" -- the cops came and arrested him right then, led him away in handcuffs. This was a gentleman in his 50's with no prior arrests.

Much, much better for the employee AND the company. As stated above, the company risks losing its license to sell.
I did TGI Fridays shops YEARS ago for a different company than who does them now. I did a ton of them and only one person did not ID. The shop required me to ask for a manager, have them come over, explain if they passed or failed, and then the shop was comped on the spot so there was no out of pocket. I had the manager come over, explained the server had failed, he told me he would comp the bill and then bring me back over a receipt showing the comp. On his way to do that, he fired the server and pointed my guest and me out to her. I had no interest in someone waiting for me in the parking lot so that was the last Fridays shop I did.

Yes, I did them for years for the previous company. The MSC went out of business when Friday's moved to a different MSC. I never had any not ID me but I always worried about that. Fridays makes the manager immediately fire any bartender or server who does not check ID and gets caught. Friday's makes it very clear to the servers and they are frequently reminded.
I was not doing a shop but was carded. I must have looked surprised because the cashier then told me that someone had been fired last week because they had not asked a "mystery shopper" for their ID and now they ID everyone.
I was doing an alcohol compliance shop at a grocery store... The cashier didn't have a name tag, wasn't logged into the system with her name (as it wasn't printed on the receipt... something else was there) and didn't ID me.. not only that, she didn't ask for my birthday either and entered something on the receipt. I have often wondered what has happened to her, but I know that she had a job to do as did I. It's a huge liability for the company and it's their job to protect their business...
