Almost all Sassie MSCs ask for a geoverify code but nobody "requires" it! You can still submit without it. People without a smartphone would not be able to write reports at all if they "required" it.

For this shop specifically, some of us could not submit it without the GeoVerify code. Myself included.

Like I said somewhere in this thread, this was eventually resolved for me and the report was pushed through manually by the MSC or SASSIE's tech support.

Shopping the Greater Denver Area, Colorado Springs and in-between in Colorado. 33 year old male and willing to travel!
I submitted my report with the code, forgot to try without it.

I will go ahead and take my tablet with me but I am m leaving it in the car b/c when I eat super I have no electronics at the table. I think that is rude.

Yes I have used my tablet to take pictures of my food or scan my bar code for my app but once I do it goes away.

A couple do. There's one that does some audits that requires one. They tell you upfront though. This one was a surprise.

Please read the guidelines. The top page IMPORTANT instructions clearly cover why you can NOT use your tablet on the shop. There are related interaction questions.

I strongly recommend following the guidelines or risk having your report challenged or rejected.

I just read the guidelines and I didn't see anything about a tablet. I aways read the guidelines b4 I do a shop.

What Isaiah57 is talking about is the sentence on page 1 of the guidelines, near the center of the page that says "..... it is essential that you are not using your smartphone, tablet, other electronic device to
entertain yourself during your shop." (I have removed the reason why they think it is essential because it seems to me to reveal a specific client goal, which I think would be an ICA violation to reveal.)

I think you are talking about two different things. It is okay to have the tablet with you, put away as Isaih4031a says. It would not be okay to have the tablet out and be using it during the shop, which is Isaiah57's point. It seems to me that nobody is wrong here.
I am doing a shop tomorrow and my scheduler said, "Geoverify is not mandatory. It will be in the future." It is still showing up as optional in my report BUT I am download Geoverify anyway since that seems to be the way things are pointed.
I have one assigned to me for tomorrow. According to what I see it says enter the code "if you have one", which is what it has always said and I never had one. As far as some people saying to use your tablet during the shop to get the code my guidelines specifically say not to use a tablet while on the shop. It is possible guidelines are specific to area so that could be where some of the confusion may be coming from. The best advise I can give would be to contact the scheduler when in doubt.
As mentioned above, at this moment GeoVerify is not required for the BWW shops. It will be required in the near future, so it wouldn't hurt to download and try out the app.

We will be sure to notify everyone of the change before their shops are due!

I do several shops that require it. I also do several shops where I have a choice of providing a time-stamped photo of the location or a GeoVerify code. Since I would have to download yet another app to put time-stamps on my photos and I already have GV on my phone I use it. It is the way of the future.
It is VERY Simple. Get the GeoCode from the parking lot, it does not have to be from in the building. That is how I have always done it.

My point is, if you use your tablet then your server may not find it necessary to perform part of their job that the survey asks you to report on.

I want to be sure I understand this!!

So when I do a BWW shop again I get the Geoverify on my tablet.

To be clear, most likely you will have to have your own data plan on your tablet. This is because you have to be near to but outside the location to get a valid GV code, so you can't go to a local Starbucks etc and do the GV for BWW. It needs to be at the location and you will also need good visibility to a satellite so you might not be able to get a code inside BWW. (Not sure if BWW has free wifi as I haven't needed to try it while I was there.)

On a separate note, while GV is the future, I don't find it very reliable with respect to location. There have been plenty of times where I have taken a GV code directly in front of the location and it will still say I am 1 to 3 miles away. This usually happens at large shopping centers when the address is associated with the HQ of the shopping center but the store is at the far end of the shopping center.

A while back I had a question and i emailed them but they never reply back. I guess it got lostin cyber space some where or it went to junk.

I was planning on taking my tablet and trying it out to see if it would work. In fact i will be in the area and i will try it out then. I know that t the code will change each tie.

I guess I am old school and I believe electronics should not be allowed at the table. I have seen to many pp on their phones while eating. Not sure if they are utting in reports or playing or what.

. Our BWW is in a shoppig center. Like my grandpaw would say it is better to have it and not need it abd need it but to need it and not have it.

Yes I know that are timings and other things to remember but I take a litte note pad and a pen or I just use a take out menu.

But this is about Gv and not pp on their phobes whie eating.

When I go out to eat I talk to the server and not my phone or I have my nose stuck in my phone

I understand you are making a personal choice to ignore the guidelines. I do not understand your choice to try and justify it here on a public forum.

Think this over: There are many members here that work for MSCs, the majority of them lurk here. I guarantee you several of them will print this thread out for business purposes. They will share it with editors to help them understand some of the things they are being asked to do. Their company will show it to clients when they try to justify the higher costs of doing business, to verify shops are performed properly. Clients will look at reports like this and potential question the integrity that secret shopping offers them.

We hear from shoppers that clients review video, it's happening more often now. Every post or blog by a shopper that talks about stuff like ignoring guidelines, being afraid to provide 100% truthful reports, etc.. is a blemish and ultimately costs us (the shoppers) money.

Completed my first BWW shop in a few months and was not required to do Geo Verify. I've never completed a shop with this before. Thankfully I didn't have to start yesterday!

I like to email the GV code to myself - just in case.

Good idea just in case your device has issues. I have to check as I do not remember if this is only app based, meaning if your device goes wonky is there any way to recover your history?

After refusing to use it for years I finally broke down for some quick and easy shops where it was the preferred POV. I usually take a quick screenshot so it's saved to the cloud. That even might be overkill. I could have sworn the app was on my old tablet so the same information was available there. For some reason it's not on my new iPad so I can't "verify," LOL.

Darn, I am going to be forced to get a different phone. I love my Windows phone, but it doesn't get a those fancy apps.
It is another form of proof of when you were there and at the correct location. I have forgotten to get the code on several AT&T and smartphone shops and will return later that night on the way home and get the code. In the comment section at the bottom of the report, I just state the situation with the GeoCode, and it is usually credited. I see it sometimes as the difference between a 9 or 10 rating. Its a little thing but it they ask for it even though it may not be REQUIRED it is there for a reason. One extra rather than one less.
