I have wondered about that. We're contractors so we're on our own but I've seen shops posted that are under minimum wage. I've also wondered as minimum wage starts going up in some states, here in NY it's up to $11 an hour and scheduled in the next 11 months to go to $13 and then $15 12 months after that what will happen to mystery shopping here. Some of the lower priced shops will have to go up in price I would think.
True story - not sure how they calculated the likelihood someone would complete that shop...it's not like you are also getting fed1

And just like dust, I will rise.
If you consider your travel time, time to load pics, report time..... unfortunately a lot of mystery shopping jobs are below minimum wage.
"up to..."

Some audits are completed on-site in much less time than that and they require only minutes to report. On those occasions, the pay is okay. You never know in advance if you will be able to complete the job in a shorter amount of time, so the pay should be adjusted up slightly to account for variations. The pay should not be so high or by the minute, to prevent clever auditors from dawdling in order to get more money.

I dawdle when I'm reporting, so I don't count that time. However I do consider how long the report is and I expect about $15/hour on site, which is above minimum wage.
