H&R Block, Jackson Hewitt, Walmarts TAX prep Company Audits: Anyone complete these?

Has anyone completed these? What exactly do you need to do. It looks like you need to take pictures also. There's plenty on the board where I live and I'm pretty free next week so I'm thinking about doing these. I'm going to take the test for them now and see if that gives me a better idea of what is involved. I'm sure there's wait time if they're conducting a tax return at that moment so I would probably call them and make an appointment.

In January I did a couple of these shops and they're easy. Since it was early in the year, there were no customers at any of the locations, just the tax preparer. You might need to wait now for an employee to be free. It took about 10-15 minutes to take the pictures, check the signage, and ask the handful of questions. The report is easy. I think it's just Yes/No with few, if any, comments.
If I remember correctly, in past years you absolutely could NOT call for an appointment. I had to wait more than once, because the instructions said not to interrupt business at all. I wouldn't touch one at base rate -- but then again, the one nearest me is a 45 mile drive each way.

I've done the Jackson-Hewitt audits in the Walmarts, and have found them easy, especially if you go on slower days, like Tues or Wed, and between 10 & 3, while most people are at work. Take several pictures (not a lot), check signage and a few things in and around the kiosk, have your paperwork signed off, and your done! Easy report. For me, it was worth it at the $10.00 fee.
I've performed both. The Jackson Hewitt are a little more tricky because you need to have a form filled out by a manager at the customer service desk in Walmart and a second form filled out by associates who may or may not know the stores numbers and information (they're hired on as tax preparers who may not have any CPA experience or knowledge of the company other than their training classes on the software).

Walmart wants to know why you are there, who you are with, read your forms, have an extra copy, talk to two more managers to find out if it sounds legit and so forth. And some of them are a little ill tempered about photography being done due to cameras not being allowed. They are on it with photos because of The People of Walmart site and sue happy people... But the Jackson staff were so nice and helpful and I could do 95% of the shop before the photos had to be taken. I learned to open with information about taking photos and I even highlighted the photo part of the paperwork in my car. They seemed intense about these pictures. Now, bare in mind I did 10 of these on a route so not every Walmart is so grumpy. Most were like "oh, yeah, sure go ahead, get whatever you need. Nah, I don't need that form, just sign in sweetie. Where do I sign your paperwork?" I had 2 problems of excessive questioning out of 10 stores but I did get my photos.

The H&R were much easier. I could get all of my photos outside of the building before I even walked inside to do the rest of the audit. The H&R pages are about half the thickness of the Jackson Hewitt ones too. There are less questions, most observations are easy, and if you pick up a few, it's likely the managers may be the same at the different locations and they'll have staff expecting you on site. I also did about 10 of those after negotiations. We were traveling and after I tested a couple and found them easy, I bargained to get a few. H&R staff were great and locations varied. I stopped at many that had 3-5 desks, 8-10, and then one I stopped in had 43 desks and the front counter had 2 stations if they were backed up so the front staff could prepare as well.

I do them. Sometimes. I think the pay should be more than $10, so I try to find other shops to do instead. But if I am free and there are no other shops in my area, I will do them.

Working in S. Arkansas and N. Louisiana!
I've found the H&R Block audits much easier and quicker than the JaxHewitt (not the WalMart ones). They, JH, had so many more photos of non-compliant posters it was hardly worth the fee. But the H&R Block locations are usually in good shape and easy peasy.

Some of the JH stores are franchisee that are only present during the tax season. I find they are the one with the non complaint postors.

Will check the boards, sometimes driving out of my way is not worth the fee.smiling smiley.
I do JH every year and they are very easy. I've only had one instance where the WM manager wanted more information then the Intro letter provided. Usually I ask for the Vendor book, sign in and off I go to ask associates for the location. If the JH representative is free when I arrive, I introduce myself, get the Verification form complete, take photos of all signage and wish them a great day. In all the shop takes 10 minutes and the report is quick as well. Takes me longer to edit photos then to do shop/report. I've only had 1 location with a customer the entire time I was there. You only have to wait 30 minutes and then you can leave. I did take some exterior photos from a distance (make sure you do not get the customer in shot) and completed the form with a notice why I couldn't get JH representative to complete. After submitting report/photos, I sent an email to my scheduler explaining the entire situation. I like this shops, quick/easy, minimal report, and usually fill in my routes as I'm driving past the WM anyway. After a couple, you'll get faster. Happy shopping!

Quick afterthought: Read the guidelines, you DO NOT have to have the WM manager complete the bottom of Pg2 on Authorization letter.

Ask for the vendor's book, and the manager at the same time. Usually the MOD signs off because the store owner or Manager can't be bothered. grinning smiley
I just had the misfortune of two associates wanting more info, but that's not bad out of 10. I explained what I was doing and all was good after a thorough check and my letters were presented. Due to photography rules in Walmart, they get a little testy when you bring a camera in.

I can take a pic in any of my Walmarts. I was a co for about 10 minutes. But finding a manager to sign can be brutal.
I have 5 H&R Blocks scheduled for next week. I have done both the Jackson Hewitt and H&R Block in previous years, and they are simple and quick. It has never taken me longer than 30 minutes to complete the visit, and usually less than that - more like 15-20 minutes.

I did plenty of them the past couple of years. The photo's are real easy. I'm surprised I didn't get any yet this yet but waiting.
