Not enough food for the $$: McAllister's, 5 Guys, etc.

I have to agree with you. I do a shop and it was barely worth my time, taking a friend and splitting the bill, Now they say no sharing and put on a bunch of rules, so I haven't done any of them for quite awhile. The only thing I like about the place is the atmosphere. So unless they pony up more dough, I won't be going back. 9.00 for a half glass of wine, and its mandatory.

One of my fav burgers costs $15+ for just the burger. My 2nd fav burger costs $12+. Add sweet potato fries for $5.00 and a couple of micro brews/cocktails plus tip and we are pushing almost $50.00. Totally filling, totally yummy, totally worth it.

That was McAllisters, that's all I could afford for the $12.. 5 Guys $12 little burger, little fries and a regular drink. Sure, I don't eat the top bun and I find the fries can be warmed in the oven for breakfast with eggs. I'm sure to get a refill for the drink. McD's meal deal $6.

I thought I was the only one who did that with leftover fries.
Also, for the bacon lovers, you can get bacon in your Five Guys milkshake, if you so desire.
Well, never do Zoup unless you are satisfied that the additional fee helps cover the bill.

Do a McAllister's to-go shop. Then order both meals for yourself and fill up! I actually think you can get a lot of food with their lunch combos, but maybe it's just a lot of little items, so it feels like a lot of food.

I haven't seen the to-go shops forever, at least 5 months. That's when it was worth it I thought. I assumed they discontinued them and now have only the dine-in shops. I have to stop in the middle of the afternoon and go to a fancy and complex mini-mall to get there also.
Based on the postings here, 5 guys prices vary widely by market. A regular cheeseburger, little fries and a drink are $12.28 including tax in my area. Barely over the reimbursement limit and since the shops I take are usually with bonus pay, I don't sweat the pennies.

I also think 5 guys takes care of their workers a bit better than the average FF shops around. The starting pay is advertised around here at $10.50, and I've talked to a few workers in the local watering hole that tell me the pay goes up quickly to ever $15 if you're good. Also they get free meals and have some health insurance benefits. I think McDonalds makes their workers pay for their meals, but do give a discount.

I'm perfectly suited for doing FF shops, even low paying ones, one week a month. I travel for my regular job and they reimburse me for food purchased - so the low paying shops with small reimbursements turn into nice ones.

I just can't figure out which company is doing them where I go for work. There is a pizza place I find on the boards often - one which pretty much requires you to be a gravity defying contortionist to take a pic of the whole pie - but I don't like that kind of pizza at all. I do it once a week when I'm out of town working, but I really only eat the top of the pizza.
I take the toppings off of one side of Papa John's and put them on the other side, cause, well, you have to they're so cheap with the toppings.

I love it. Bacon and chocolate are awesome. Some people can eat them in the same bites. I saw somewhere that they have bacon ice cream. Yuk. But I guess don't knock it until you try it, eh?
i like pb & bananas.
I'm a lucky ducky- I do the FG on military base and they have a hard time filling the job. I'm doing one next week for $20. Usually it is about $16-$18. I don't mind winking smiley The best part for me is the fries- yes I know there are small crispy fries fan- but FG's taste like a real potato and the others taste too processed for me. Just personal preference I guess. The milkshakes are outstanding if a little small. Who needs the calories? Not me. I try not to eat it all. There is no way I could eat all the fries- which are still tasty even when they get cold. Those small processed fries taste good for about the first 5 minutes you have them.
Why and how do you have leftover fries?

Even though I order the little fries, my bag is almost full of fries. There's at least two and sometimes three cup fulls of fries, although there's only one cup in the bag! It must be four large russet potatoes worth. I'm pretty full if I eat the entire double burger without the top bun and drink half of the soda and about 10 fries.
Anyone's Five Guys fries been extremely salty lately? Last time I went, the bag had a large amount of salted grease on the top of the bag, like it slid off the fry scoop as they were adding the fries to the bag. I have to dust off my fries and hands each time I go for one. It's overkill!!!

Yes, absolutely, mine are always very salty lately. And isn't it pretty close to sea salt sized chunkies!? Luckily I carry tissue in the car so I can put the bag down, otherwise, gross!
Good to know about the 5 Guys hotdogs. I love their burgers so it would be really hard for me not to order one, but you've intrigued me for sure!
