Travel Pay

I am a fairly new shopper, from a smaller town, and have been contacted by a MSC to do a shop in a neighboring town, approximately 35 minutes away. I recently signed up with this company and would like to do more for them. The shop pays an amount that I would not typically drive to another town to do. The scheduler asked me how much I would want as travel pay to do the shop. I'm uncertain what is customary. I want to be reasonable but also want it to be worth my time. I would appreciate any advice.

figure 3 gal of gas plus 1 hr of time or $7.50 gas and car wear and tear plus $12 to $24 for time. This comes to $19.50 to $31.50 in bonus depending on how much you put as a time value.
Other factors to include other shops on the way or nearby you can grab, value of shop at base rate if it were next store to you is it worth it if not add few bucks in bonus request, money required to put up front for shop, quickness of msc pay.

Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.
I would also ask for more shops on the same day at or near the distant location. Get it all in writing!

Based in MD, near DC
Shopping from the Carolinas to New York
Have video cam; will travel

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
Even if a scheduler doesn't email you the specifics, you can send an email after your phone call confirming the terms you came to,

"Hi XXX,

I enjoyed speaking to you on the phone. I appreciate you accepting my offer of doing XXX shop at XXX location for $XX in pay and $XX in bonus. I look forward to working with you. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks,

XXX"

If they don't respond, you can at least point to that as, "Hey, you didn't object..."

I shop for a well-known MSC that pays $0.36/mile for travel to its assignments. I usually use that as a yardstick when asked, although most companies will make you an offer for travel beyond your immediate home area.
