ACL - You must order the pizza "half-baked"

I saw a pizza shop for A Closer Look which involves you order a pizza for carry-out, but you must order the pizza "half baked." Does this sound like a dead giveaway for a mystery shopper? I see these half-baked pizza shops every month. I've never heard of a non-shopper ordering a pizza half-baked. Is this typical, or would I stand out?

Eew, Yuck - a half baked Pizza? Not something edible in my opinion. And no, I wouldn't want to take it home and try to finish baking it there either. Do people really eat half baked pizzas?

They want you to order it half-baked, take photos, then bake it and take more photos. You don't have to eat it half-baked, just order it like that. Are there really people that order it half-baked? Why would someone order a half-baked pizza?
You would order it half baked to finish baking on your own later. Instead of having a cold pizza for dinner, you would finish baking it yourself!

Somehow they seem to be getting the shops done. My question is why would someone do all that work - baking and photgraphing multiple times and writing a report - for the price of a pizza?

The pizza is very, very good with gourmet toppings but not worth it since there is no fee, just reimbursement. You also have to order a salad, and the fee barely covers it (depending on what type of pizza you order). As a non-shopper, it would never in a million years occur to me to request my pizza half-baked.
I used to work at a pizza store that sold "take and bake" pizzas. These were completely unbaked, though. We sold a few each month. Not many, but enough that we wouldn't have assumed mystery shoppers were the only one ordering one. But, I've never seen or heard of anyone selling or ordering a "half baked" pizza. I'm not even sure the health department would allow a restaurant to sell half baked pizzas.

That's my thought too. If you order a half-baked pizza it would normally be because you don't plan on eating it right away. But then if you let it sit out or you refrigerate it before fully baking it, it sounds like a breeding ground for bacteria.
I have actually ordered them myself (and not on a shop). My son works at the restaurant and my boyfriend was wanting to try it due to it was new. He lives an hour away and I didn't want it to be cold before I got there. My son actually suggested that I get it this way and we finished baking it ourselves.

Shopping across Indiana but mostly around Indianapolis.
I get half baked pizza for the same reason as IBW1000. When your ready to eat it, just bake it for 15 minutes at 400 oven. I also buy frozen pizza from a restaurant the has been selling frozen pizza for 50 years. I'm bringing one to my daughters to eat later tonight. The restaurant suggest half baked if it is only an hour or two, any longer frozen.
Omigosh, we always get take and bake pizzas! We get to eat them fresh and hot, and get to cook them to our preferred golden deliciousness. They're kept cold after building. Better than the "deli" pizzas in the grocery that you cook at home.

Now, half baked I'm not sure I'd get. Below 40 or above 120, otherwise bacteria can grow. To each their own.
There's a pizza chain up in my neck of the woods that specializes in "take and bake" pizzas... they're partially baked and you just finish them off in your oven at home. They're pretty popular up here, though I've never tried them (they aren't shopped that I know of, or else I'm sure I would have! smiling smiley

I think anyone who's familiar with that chain up here wouldn't think twice about ordering a half baked pizza and the shop is probably used to hearing that order. I don't think it would out you as a shopper.

I thought when it was half-baked, they baked the crust only. The sauce and toppings are put on cold. I've seen restaurants do that so you can take it home and bake and eat it whenever you're ready. It works well if you're live far away or want to eat the pizza at a different time than pick-up. I've made homemade crusts that call for this method too. The crust gets completely cooked but the toppings don't burn. I don't think the health department would allow it if there was a food safety issue with it.
I have done the half baked pizza once for the shop. I felt like I shouted "THIS IS A MYSTERY SHOP!" when I ordered it. I do understand why people might order it that ot that I would. I am not a "pizza person," but I loooooove the client's pizza. Love it, love it! But I am also disppointed that I end up not even getting my pizza and salad (which is amazing!!) reimbursed.

The vegetables and meats are cooked. The crust is cooked enough, the half baked takes only a few minutes to bake. You don't have to worry about bacteria. I only buy this way when I'm not eating for three or four hours. You can refrigerate it.

last wk I got a papa murphy's pizza.. Baked it, raw on bottom.. baked same amt time again, STILL raw.. third 20 min STILL RAW, topping now overly cooked.. they exchanged it nicely.
There are several pizza places in my area where you can get a half-baked pie. Like others have said, they're great for when you will be eating several hours later.

I've had Papa Murphy's pizza, where you "take and bake" but nothing is cooked. I'll pass.

These are made fresh to order and refrigerated if not picked up within an hour and a half, at least in these parts. (Meat toppings are pre-cooked.) We had one last night, picked up right away (1 mile away) and cooked right away. No different concept than if I'd made it at home. But, to each their own, of course.

I see above that "half baked" means the crust is cooked, but the whole pie isn't baked. That is great clarification, thanks. Changes my perception totally. Cooked crusts themselves are available in grocery, and that restaurant concept makes sense to me now.
