Required item not on receipt

I'm doing a shop which requires a specific ordered item. My barista comp the item and it's not on my receipt. I insisted three times that I wanted to pay but the manager refused.

What should I do?

The shop requirements are a hot beverage and food item of my choice. One of the two items are not listed on my receipt.

Depends on the company. A reputable one will allow it as it was out of your control. A non-reputable one will not.

I agree. I had a 3 item requirement shop and the cashier was busy talking to someone. She either scanned my gum and it didn't read the bar code, or she forgot to scan it and set it out for me. Either way, the company accepted my report with just 2 items and an explanation of what occurred. She did ask me if I wanted the gum left out so perhaps she just forgot to scan it. *hope all goes well* explain it well in your report smiling smiley

I'm betting you will not have any problem if you detail in your report exactly what happened. Be sure to clearly SAY that you ordered two items, name them, and say that one is on the receipt and you paid for it and the other is not on the receipt because it was comped by the manager. Do not wait for them to "discover" it when they look at the receipt. Tell them up front. It helps to mention it in several places in the report in different ways to make absolutely sure that they understand that you understood and followed the guidelines but that an item, was comped. Of course, you won't be reimbursed for the comped item, but there should be no problem with the shop getting accepted and paid. It's actually not that unusual for an item to be comped. It has happened to me a bunch of times and so far I have never had a report denied because I reported that an item was comped.

Taking a time dated photo of what the OP received isn't a bad idea, but I'm guessing it's too late for that. Good idea for next time.
I took a photo of my meal after I received it but no timestamp. My phone does not have option or at least I don't know how to do it.

There is only an upload for two photos; the store exterior and the receipt. I am going to email them as well.
There are many free apps to do a time dated photo. On my IPhone I use TimeStampIt. Every shopper should have something like it on their phone for cases like this. Some shops even require a time dated photo.
I don't have a smartphone but use a digital camera for the required photos. Well, since Daylight savings was over in November, I was not able to successfully change the time stamp. It's one hour ahead. I followed the camera's instructions to change it but was not able to. I always explain why the time stamp was one hour ahead in my reports. Not a problem so far. The good news- Daylight savings is coming up in a couple of months so I don't have to explain the one hour's difference.
Catgranny, you make me feel so much better! I'm so SICK of feeling stupid because these tech things drive me INSANE. My camera's date/time stamp still says the same thing it did the first time I used it -- Dec. 12, 2007!!!!
I do NOT understand how to change it, or to turn it off! I cannot master photos on my phone -- I can take them OK, but I can't get them to DO anything, like um....put themselves into a report? ROTFLMFAO!!!

When schedulers say "time stamped photo required", I tell them "well, it'll be stamped Dec. 12, 2007" -- I'm sure they get a chuckle out of that! Some of 'em say "turn off the time stamp if you don't know how to correct the time", and I just tell 'em, nope, don't know how. Followed the instructions to the most minute detail, and it didn't work.

So far -- knock on wood -- I've never had a report rejected due to the time stamping on a photo.
ceasesmith, my adult kids have helped me with a lot of the technical stuff for my reports. Do you have anyone in the younger generation to help you with some of that? It took me awhile to do that kind of stuff.
I've had items forgotten or comped several times and never had the shop rejected. But what I do not understand is why things being comped always happen on shops when I am being reimbursed anyway and almost never happen when I am paying on my own dime. Is that coincidence?
It depends on the client probably. The Cashier on a grocery shop did not scan one of only three items I purchased and I had to (got to) redo the shop.
If something happens on a shop outside of my control, such as the comp problem, I make it clear I pushed it as far as I could, but felt pushing any further would have outed me as a shopper. I think that reminds them that I am mindful of protecting my anonymity, which is what they stress so much.
You could have thanked them then stated you want to pass it forward and buy another of the comped item for a friend.

This happened to me once on a shop. I was to purchase certain items. It was only after I got to my table that I noticed I wasn't charged for one item. I just explained it in my report and I was paid. I think standing at the register and closely reading a receipt makes someone stand out. Most people don't even want a receipt.
Ok, yes I recently was comped a drink for having to wait for my food item much longer than usual. I took a picture of both items together. The MSC did not read my narrative so asked why the drink was in the pic but not on the receipt. I explained, the shop was approved.

That sounds like a good idea however it was a dine in shop. It would be rather silly to buy a hot drink for someone while I sit and eat my food for 15 mins.

This just happened to me on Sunday. Casual dining shop where a beverage MUST be purchased. I ordered coffee and was not charged! Yikes! I reported it and the shop was approved. I would think companies would like to know if their wait staff is not ringing up all items.
I have spoken to and read stories from those who have worked as supervisors in bar areas of restaurants and evidently not charging for drinks/refills is frequent. Perhaps this is one of the reasons they have hired your msc to report on these lapses in charging for items. So it would seem they really want to know and not have you purchase a second item so you will have a receipt to show them...and then they will never find out what they are employing us to find out.
I once did a gas station mystery shop. Unfortunately, at the station was a manager from a station that I audit. He would not let me pay for the item. What to do. I called the MSC and told the person that and was instructed to input that in the report. I did and was paid. So maybe you can tell your story on the report and it will help.
I recently did a restaurant uploaded receipt and got an alert...seems the uploaded receipt was of my debit card, not showing any food items I bought. We discussed it and the MCS was on my side, but not sure if the client would accept it. They sent it through and called me, yes it was accepted this time. Sigh of relief. Depends on the Co., and client. Some companies may not send report through, good luck!!

It already happened to me a couple of times. As long as you report everything as it happened on the report, you should be fine. All the shops where this happened to me were approved without any question.

If you are using your Smartphone to take the photos and the location is on, generally the time and date are in the details. When you load the photo onto your computer, you should be able to see the time and date the photo was taken by hovering your mouse pointer over the photo. They should be able to see it on the other end as well, especially if you email it.
