Getting emails that shops are not being accepted

This morning I got an email that my shop was not accepted. The editor said that I did not follow the direction. I did not evaluate the bathroom? In the instructions it clearly states that if it's a shared bathroom do not evaluate. These editors need to read the instructions!
I emailed her back and told her that I was not supposed to Evaluate the bathroom if it was shared. Her reply was, "Every other shopper has evaluated the bathroom."
My reply back is, "Every other shopper has been doing the shop wrong."
What a freaking joke! I told her, "Read"the Guidelines!!! "
I get an email back, "I talk to my manager and we're going to pay you for the shop."

I agree that some evaluators do not read the guidelines and even though some do, they take extreme liberal advantage of the guidelines. We as MS follow the instructions but there are some instructions that are not crystal clear, and it leaves it open to interpretation as to what you can do. This is where the evaluators can interpret it their way and ding us. Even after I explain my perspective.

Sometimes it isn't worth pushing it with the evaluator because they can really lower our shopper rating. Unfortunate.
Mall locations or other places that share bathrooms are not supposed to be evaluated. However, I've noticed while doing shops for FF in specific, if the bathroom is located in the FF's "store" then you should evaluate it.

I had a shop at a FF place the other day that was in a food plaza. The bathroom was located in the dining area of the FF place I shopped. The other restaurants didn't have any bathroom near them or attached to their seating area, even the color of the walls leading to the bathroom were the same color as the FF restaurant's logo colors. I evaluated the bathroom. As I submitted my shop and began to input the bathroom portion, I got a message that "said this location doesn't require evaluation."

So, I say that to say, I always leer towards the side of caution. All you really have to do is walk in and walk back out. They have cameras to verify if you stepped foot into the bathroom.
Eyelove2shop - You bring up an interesting point, how often do they review the footage to confirm our reports ? I've wondered about that.
My guess is the location would review video if something was off about the report or they just wanted to contest a negative score. That is assuming the report makes it to the store level while the video is still available. It doesn't make sense for a client to provide video to the MSC while shops are in editing.

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

I'd imagine if they wanted to contest the review. Stores that preform poorly or have lots of negative feedback use it as a tool.

Some MSC do not pay you until the client has reviewed the shop. I can think of two off the top of my head.

I just wanted to add this. I'm not sure why anyone would be concerned about video footage being reviewed. Assuming the shop was performed and reported correctly, the video would just back up what the shopper said.

Because some people just don't like being recorded.

Like me, a totally middle-class law-abiding citizen...but when I see a cop car behind me, I get nervous!

Screaming at an editor to "Read"the Guidelines!!! " does not bode well for you. Yes, they have agreed to pay you for this shop but there is a good possibility that you are now banned from that client or will be deactivated from the MSC altogether.

Even though this type of situation can be frustrating, as shoppers, we need to stay professional.

Keep in mind that this may not be an instance of an editor not reading the guidelines. The MSC probably shops multiple client locations and some locations may have a bathroom while others share a bathroom. For example, I frequently shop Panda. Most are in their own building and have their own bathroom, but one is in a Mall Food Court and it shares a bathroom. The guidelines say not to evaluate a shared bathroom but to comment that there was a bathroom available, which I always do. Unless the editor is located in your town, she may have no way of knowing whether the specific location you shopped has a bathroom or shares a bathroom. She may know only by reports from shoppers whether the bathroom is shared or not, and if previous shoppers evaluated the bathroom, that may be her only knowledge of the location. Telling her to "Read the Guidelines" might not have helped the situation. JMHO.

I didn't scream at her, but back and forth a couple times, Yes, I told her to read the guide lines. Sybil, that way she would understand that it said, "If shared bathroom, do not evaluate." She stated, shoppers in the past evaluated the BR, they have been doing the shop wrong. I'm sure I'm not banned from this MSC. If I was, I would move on. I don't think it is very professional to send an email stating a shop is not getting paid with out double checking with a shopper about a shared BR.

I stated in the report that it is a shared bathroom.
IMHO, your response to the editor, replete with the three exclamation marks, comes across as hostile. I just did a shop where I followed the guidelines to the letter. The editor e-mailed me, quoted the guidelines, and asked why I did not follow them. I was baffled and it seemed as if we were reading two different languages. The guidelines were not ambiguous at all. I replied by politely informing the editor that I had followed the guidelines. I also sent the additional information that the editor asked for, and emphasized that I was doing so even though it was not required. It is irksome when the editors don't familiarize themselves with shop requirements, but I don't suggest you make a habit of losing your cool when this happens.
I did this Peet's coffee shop a while back. It asked to check the bathroom. This particular location did not have any bathroom facility visible on the premises. I was then told by the editor that this location did have a bathroom but was located in a nearby parking lot that was shared with other businesses and needed to access the restroom with a key. Who would freaking ask if the business had a restroom after you checked and did not see a restroom on the premises?

Raising my hand. IRL and in MS'ing life, I will ask an employee if they have a restroom that I can use. First, if the restroom is not obviously visible, why waste my time looking for one? Second, many small businesses with have a restroom "in the back" of the store. Usually it is the employee bathroom or for paying customers only.

Gas stations are notorious for having "hidden" restrooms. I had to check out one which was actually an older beer cooler that had been transformed into a bathroom. I was looking for any leftover beer but alas, no luck. sad smiley
A shared restroom among businesses and not necessarily on the property isn't that big of a reach.

I've been out in the middle of no where and needed a restroom. I've been instructed multiple times to go to the business next door. Country areas may have a 'community' septic system.

Septic systems and plumbing cost a fortune. The pipes for my home weren't laid correctly. $5000 later, they still have issues. I, now know how to use a snake. Not fun and usually nasty business.

When I first owned the house, I kept Charmin for guests. The second time my pipes backed up, my Charmin courtesy was over. I might have lived through another episode of cleaning 5 sinks, 2 tubs, 1 shower, 2 toilets, dishwasher and washing machine.

Yeah, I tried litigation, but the original plumber magically went out of business.

Now, back to the subject; Editors that don't read the guidelines correctly need to be corrected. Personally, I would do it gently.

Oh and if you need soft/plush on your tushy; my house isn't for you.

Live your life in such a way that when your feet hit the floor in the morning; the devil shudders...And yells OH #%*+! SHE'S AWAKE!
That nearby parking lot for that restroom was down the street, not exactly qualified to be called next door. I've done those gas station shops that were built in the early 60's, 70's where the restroom was on the back of the lot. That Peet's coffee shop was small. I can easily see the other side of the store/exit when standing from the front entrance.

This is so funny. I read this and thought I don't remember typing this! It is exactly how I feel. My family thinks it's hysterical that I don't want to drive in front of a police car.
