Bait and Switch by a scheduler... ?

Edited to revise a bit.

Situation: received a phone call telling me I was assigned 11 out of 12 shops I applied for and to check my email for confirmation of dates. Then asked if I could pick up an additional location that day. Immediately went and did the shop since it was convenient. Checked my job board and none of the 11 shops were assigned to me. Of them, 8 were already assigned to others and 4 were still sitting on the boards. Emailed scheduler & left nice voice mail to no response. Received further emails about other assignments from scheduler and even replies to emails on the assignments so they're getting emails. Seems a bit sneaky ?

I have had my share of run-ins with schedulers. Please realize they are human beings, and quite possibly make an honest mistake once in a while. Throwing around words like "swindler" and "liar" is unprofessional, to say the least.

Perhaps an e-mail to management along the lines of "during a phone conversation with XXXX, on Feb., XXX, I was given the impression that a dozen shops for XXXXX were assigned to me. Some of these shops have since been assigned to other shoppers, some are still on the job board, but none of them have been assigned to me.

Could you make sure the remaining shops for March for XXXX are assigned to me? Thank you for taking the time to look into this for me."

Good luck. It sounds like you work fairly regularly for this MSC, so be careful not to burn any bridges!
Edited a bit at advice of other forum members.

Since they "assigned" the shops, they have been sending out emails about other shops. I still want to work with the company. I wrote back to an email about a phone shop and even received a reply to it, so I know this scheduler is reading their emails and ignoring the ones I sent about 11 other shops assigned. They're just little $5 shops that require a quick photo of signage, but it seems like they were trying to trick me by promising these 11 shops were assigned so I would grab up the restaurant.

Agree 100%. Who knows? That very same scheduler could be a forum member and would most likely know exactly who you are from your post thus jeopardizing future assignments. I would be more careful about the accusatory name-calling.

ETA: I guess we should have quoted the OP's OP since it has been changed twice already within a short period of time.

Bottom line is it sounds like the scheduler did in fact lie because clinen never got an email. And the MSC doesn't respond specifically to the emails clinen is sending. If it looks like a duck, smells like a duck, is it a duck ?

With that said, is this MSC worth the aggravation going forward in the future ? Are there other companies worth shopping for instead of this one ? Only clinen can answer that. I can only speak for myself, I cannot trust anyone who does that to me.
Edited a bit, but definitely felt like a bait and switch. HEY I'm going to give you these 11 photo audits for $5 that you asked for but can you run and do another shop for me today?

*runs and does shop* gets home, notices no other shops in the ledger, sends nice email, leaves nice voicemail, reports last minute shop, five days pass* receives further emails from same scheduler, received correspondence to new shops and information on phone call shops, scheduler continues to reply and ignore the part about the photo audits*

:-(

If I got a dozen assignments a month from one company, I would treasure that company and treat it very, very well!

I love working with them because they have such easy peasy reports, even for $5-$10. I can get a shop done and reported often in under 15 minutes. Each type has different schedulers, of course. Just seemed like a bait and switch to me. They were showing me these shiny 11 shops on a route (and I have a really good camera for it now!) and asking me to just snag up one little extra shop that day if I could. Turns out, all I got was the little $5 shop that day and no photo audits. Bummed out about it. I know it wasn't the company as a whole who did it. :/

Why make a snarky remark about me editing it when other forum members suggested that I do so? I edited it to take out the harsh wording of being so angry about it initially. Just revised because it seemed like good advise. No need to be so aggressive about quotes. If you suggest that the forum is read and that the wording should be different, then why quote it so it's written repeatedly unless you want to stoke fires?

Thank you. I did edit it a bit. I was really mad when I woke up to responses from the one and same scheduler to other phone shops. They were clearly reading their emails but choosing to ignore the ones about the phone call they made promising that shops were assigned for the photo route. :/

Because those of us who responded to the OP based on the information written in that post may not always make sense once multiple edits have been made. Then you get people throwing around the word "snarky" when in fact, it was fact.

Forum members should probably not post to a public forum...
1) before they have had their coffee, green tea or whatever in the morning
2) when "really mad"

Wow! Talk about sneaky. This OP revised his/her original post and thread title after some forum members called him/her out on the name-calling. Then the OP accuses me of a "snarky" comment. (I hate to burst everyone's bubble but not everything I post is a snarky comment.)

After the "snark attack", the OP had the nerve to PM me asking me for a favor. Then he/she posts their own snarky comment. When I call him/her out on the name-calling, snark comment and asking me for a favor, he/she changes their forum name.

Wow!
Sybil, Clinen mentioned a week ago that she tried to change her forum name and it didn't happen. Looks like the name was finally changed. [www.mysteryshopforum.com] The changed name has nothing to do with this thread. The change just happened to coincide with it. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
@ChrisCooper, thanks for the explanation. Since I don't keep track of everyone on the forum, I never saw that thread. It did seem very strange with what has been going on for the past hour or so. And the PM from Clinen.
Yup, that's me! I know everyone's goings on smiling smiley Yeah, the site has been a bit finicky yesterday/today.

I had messaged Jacob a few weeks/months back but I guess he didn't see it or I may have even sent to the wrong "Jacob" when I was new. He came through for me after a second message. \m/

Just want to point out that I didn't ask for any favors. Simply asked some longer time forum members how to report someone for asking me repeatedly to violate our IC's and give out client and mystery shop company. I also messaged a few other members to see how to report it, too and how to block people. Same person sent multiple messages about Kroger, Panda Express, Marathon and Citgo and such asking for info on the companies who do them.

MegglesKat
Well, I have a slightly different take on that. I'll check the company's website and/or talk to a scheduler, and if they pay a referral bonus (many do!), then I'll forward them the e-mail of the person who wants to shop. I'll e-mail them back "I'll ask the scheduler, and if it's OK with them, and OK with you, I'll give your e-mail to the company, and they will get in touch with you. Is that OK?"

I love those $25 referral fees showing up, LOL!!! There's actually MSCs out there I've never done a single shop for that have paid me referral fees!

There's also nothing lost by telling someone "The Source does grocery shops".

There's also nothing wrong with politely e-mailing someone back and instructing them on the meaning of the ICAs, and also of the forum rules. Newbies OFTEN don't realize the importance of these things, and it never hurts to be kind and help them get started right.

But, that's just me.

smiling smiley
Oh, I was definitely nice the first and second time, but the third time of begging just frustrated me and I see they have posted a few posts and asked other members too. They'll probably create a new account once this one goes south and keep nagging folks to tell them who does Cinnabon and Arby's and so forth. I would love to get some referral fees besides the initial sign up. $$$ There are people with blogs who get a lot of money from their referrals but alas, I am not one sad smiley

I would not jeopardize my reputation with my schedulers by referring some unknown name from a public forum to perform shops (or not perform shops) for a MSC. How do you know what kind of work ethic they have? Are they reliable? Will they follow the guidelines? Will they be a flake? Will their reports require a ton of editing? Their behavior could reflect badly on you.
Absolutely agree, Sybil. There are acquaintances I won't recommend for that very reason, so why would I refer a complete stranger who could be a total flake?
I think you can get a pretty good idea about a shopper's work quality after they have posted a lot. There are a few that I might recommend just because they would have to be a lot different than they are on here to be a bad shopper. In fact I told a shopper just tonight they could tell a scheduler I referred them.

But would you recommend someone who constantly asked for you and other forum members to break their ICAs?
I don't even talk to those people, so no way I would be able to recommend them.
I'm talking about just recommending shoppers where I might know where they live and happen to know someone has shops there.
Remember I travel a ton. There are quite a few companies who I know have holes and where they are. Sometimes I realize people are in those areas. After reading their posts for awhile I might PM and suggest they check out a certain company or email a scheduler. Sometimes I tell them to use my name. Sometimes I don't.

I very much agree with #2 here. I have made this mistake here in the past and what I've learned is that if something happens in my mystery shopping experiences that makes me mad - walk away and calm down. And then if I am going to post here about it, let some time pass and then I can be calm and much more objective about things and by that point, just seeking advice for future shops.

I agree 100%. I sometimes will even write my "angry post" in Word then walk away from the computer and do something else for awhile. When I return, I will edit as necessary and if still feel the need to post, I will. I do the same thing with my "angry emails."
