Crazy weather and canceling shops; Kudos to the good companies, boo to the bad.

We were hit with a major wind storm here/small tornado was spotted in the area. The power has been out for 3 days. Houses are without roofs, out buildings and debris are everywhere, old brick buildings are collapsed in the street, power lines are down everywhere, trees down, some homes are flipped upside down or on their sides and such. My house remains mostly okay. My place is still on it's foundation, but the porch partially blew off, the awnings are looking rough and pieces of roofing and tin flew away, and tons of items around blew off. Parts of the siding blew away and I haven't had internet or power. I'm using up some of my phones data to post a little today. Many of these locations may not power and are experiencing clean up; I did phone call several places to no answer. The landlines are in and out. Areas are flooded from rain storms, and today it's snowing so anyone who doesn't have coal, wood, or kerosene is going to be cold sad smiley

Read through the forum and it seems it can be common place with some companies to be unsympathetic towards weather. Other companies are excellent. Kudos to those companies that are here for us when tragedy, weather, and life hits! smiling smiley I had to cancel seven and reschedule a dozen or so shops this weekend. It may show up somewhere in a back office, but I was able to get everything worked out.

My honey is suggesting we go be part of the cleanup crews in a neighboring county this weekend. They were hit much worse than our town... but he doesn't want to take a tetanus shot tongue sticking out smiley

I totally agree with you! I'm in California and we have mudslides and trees all over the roads. So many road closures in my area right now! I have had to cancel and reschedule so many shops in the last couple weeks. The companies that I work for have been so sympathetic and sent me emails that they have heard about our situation. There are emails include, "Be safe and let me know when we can reschedule you." These are the companies that I love to work for.
To all others out there, Be safe and stay out of the crazy storms.

Must be why one of my schedulers is so amazing! She's in California and I'm on the opposite coast but she checks in daily without nagging about shops. She's made sure I'm safe and that I'm okay and even proactively asked if she could give me a full week extension on shops smiling smiley

Marketforce tends to send e-mails saying "we've rescheduled for you. Please STAY SAFE, that's the most important thing!" Kudos, Marketforce.

OTOH, I had to send another company a photo of the 6-foot high snowdrift blocking my car in.

Ditto on the Marketforce email. They contacted me first to say shops can be rescheduled and to stay safe. They were understanding and helpful when storms hit my area.
Kern scheduling and HDE were understanding when I asked for an extension for their shops since my freeway had experienced some flooding and accidents due to the flooding. i wasn't looking forward to sitting in the freeway traffic backup just to get to my destination.
If a MSC required a photo of a snow drift from me, if I sent it, it would also be sent to the company's president explaining why I am through with them. They entrust me to evaluate other people's jobs, causing them to possibly lose their jobs, but they don't trust me when I tell them I am not able to shop because of weather conditions (a fact they could easily verify anyhow)???

Sorry to see that you aren't well informed about HDE and their business practices.
I have had pretty good luck rescheduling/canceling as needed due to the storm. We usually get hit with snow, not so much small tornadoes 0_o We managed to get some new roofing and put the porch back on the house. Most of the siding was salvaged that we could find. Rounded up most of what blew away from the porch and yard and have tethers some of the things down. Oddly, the grill didn't blow off/over. My table to my lawn set is cracked up pretty bad, but I bought it at a thrift sale for $15.
