Yes, must be regional. And as SCM said, if i don't use a name I'm certainly saying ma'am or.sir.

I must be as naive as BG....i never think anyone's hitting on me unless they ask for my #., or maybe say, "Hi, and what's your name"? But doing my bar audits, I at times get introduced and think nothing of it...just a polite way to interact. Married guys always call me by name, it's when they want to see where I live that sends signals. Must be the way we all look at things.....sad smiley I recently had a lunch date, someone liked me from the coffee house I go too, and finally asked for my #....#over it...

saying Ma'am or sir...really, if i get called Ma'am, i feel old.....

I remember the names of each person in the line by saying the last names of people I know. For instance, if the names are Jen, Aaron, David, Jaime, I tell myself the last names of people I know or have known in my life that match those names. Last week when I did this shop, there was a name that was unusual. But there is a famous person with that name so I remembered by thinking of that famous person's last name. Then as soon as I get my pizza, I text myself all of the names. It's never failed me yet. I also ask my guest to try to remember names, but I've never needed help.
I also repeat the names by saying, "Thank you, Lisa" during a shop, so I can review them later. But I live in the South, so it's pretty normal to hear everyone call you by name. I lived in the Northeast most of my life, where that would seem out of place, but it's normal here.

That's funny. When people call me ma'am, I feel respected, not old. When I am called Miss, I think, "Seriously? Do I look 19?"

Then again, my friend (she's a sister - kind of like a nun, but she can go out of the convent) has got me calling anyone under 25 "Sweetie or honey." It diffuses the tension in a magical way sometimes.
Did my first Blaze shop today. Wasn't impressed. Maybe I'll try another location sometime. Of course I live where we have Donatos Pizza which is the BEST (in my opinion).

In Texas, all women are Miss. Not from here, so it drove me crazy the first few months of teaching.

Then I just asked the kids if they "missed" me. They wouldn't get it until they were seniors.
By the way, the menu items are the same as Mod and Pieology. If a male customer addressed me by name, then looks up & down at me at some point, then it is considered creepy. It may sound creepy when addressed by name but at least they are trying to maintain eye contact. For some customers, if they addressed you by name, they want to relate to you on a friendly level. Then again, some female associates had sized me up by looking up & down to get a sense of uppityness, if that's a real word.
I asked my niece who is a restaurant server about customers calling her by name. She said she likes it because it makes her feel like they see her as a person. She's young and naive though!
