What's the fastest you've re-shopped a same-client bank?

For example, if you shopped Bank X and closed your account with them today, how long would you wait before reshopping that bank?

Do you guys know if all banks have records of your previous accounts? I know it's been discussed before, but feel free to also add tips for how to give a plausible reason for opening another account (esp. if it's soon after your last one).

Thanks everyone! smiling smiley

[I'm thinking of re-shopping a bank within a three month period, but am not sure if that's too soon.]

Your MSC will have rotation requirements, so check with them first.

For account opening shops, I have not been assigned the same locations twice.

I had a personal account at a bank and decided to close it. It was much later, maybe 6mos to 1 year. I did a shop at that bank. Yup, they pulled up my old account. I'm sure each bank has differences on this. Have a good back up line.
I opened and closed accounts with one bank when the rotation was two months. My reasoning was book club funds, saving for a car down payment, secret account from my spouse, etc.

It could literally be the next day after closing the account, same branch and banker, as long as there is no rotation or problem from the MSC. For that you could say I changed my mind and want to reopen an account of course being the new one. Other excuses depending on length of time I believe the account may have been compromised and wanted a completely new unrelated account. I was moving and the place I was moving to had no local branches but it looks like I won't be relocating after all. I personally could pull it off closing one day and opening a new one the next but would not suggest even if allowed anyone do it. I would say at least 30 days and preferablly longer.

Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.

I must be super dense, Honny, but could you elaborate on the book club funds excuse? grinning smiley So would you tell them that you're a book club host and people give you money to be part of your club? Something like that?

No spouse here, so that one would work. heh heh.

Oh and saving for a car down payment. Would you just close the account a few months later then?

Did you ever encounter a closing of account fee? Thanks!
Your book club decided to start paying dues for an end of the year dinner.

You could open an account to track your car maintenance, cat grooming, restaurant spending, beauty products, wine purchases, bathroom remodel...get creative!

One time at the red and blue bank, where I had opened and closed a checking or savings account every month for the past year, the banker told me there would be a $50 fee for closing it before 3 months. I told her to show that to me in the disclosures. She couldn't, and it never came up again.

puahahahahahaha @ your last sentence. tongue sticking out smiley
I've done account opening shops, checking and/or savings accounts, with 3 or 4 banks. I never had to pay a fee to close the account. The MSC will sometimes tell you how long to keep it open.
