Before applying for a bank shop, how do I know if the shopper is required to open a checking account or a credit card?

I would love to do some banking shops. However, I have absolutely no interest in opening up a new account, which includes checking, savings, credit card or a mortgage re-fi. Is there a way to know if this is the expectation BEFORE I apply for the assignment? I don't want to sign-up, see the guidelines and then cancel. Specifically, I am referencing Maritz and Ath, although I'm sure there will be other companies to which I will eventually apply that offer bank shops. Are there certain buzz words I should be looking for?

ATH will let you know in the description when you get to the apply screen. The fees are a little low to be opening accounts. With all the bank bonus offers out there no one should open a checking for less than 200$

Hello!

The shop instructions/guidelines will give you your assigned scenario.

Are the instructions and guidelines available BEFORE accepting the assignment? I think that's what the OP wants to know. jimmydoe is correct that ATH's info is available on the apply screen. I could be wrong but I think Maritz's info before application is specific enough to at least know that you do not have to open an account or credit card, although you may not know the specific scenario.
The banks shops with Maritz will ask you if you are willing to open a new account and pass the qualification questions before you can self assign or get approval to perform the shop. There are some that only require you to interact with the banker to acquire information regarding to credit cards, checking account or whatever but not to open an account.
I live on bank shops and not the kind that require opening an account. It has always been revealed up front if you are required to open an account. The majority do not have that requirement. It's more checking on customer service when you ASK about opening an account. I love these shops except the blue bank. They have a tendency to have one banker and you can get stuck waiting for 20-30 minutes. Or, told you'll have to return another day.

I live on those blue banks. It depends on the area. I've been at locations where I was in & out in less than 10 minutes. I'll remember which locations were the busiest times 12 to 2, 4 to 6 PM and come at a time when it is less busy. Usually it's in the 10:30 to 11:30, or right before kids needed to picked up from school time.
Catgranny - when I first started doing the blue banks (year ago) I too could get right in and out. This is no longer the case. It seems to affect me most when I'm route shopping. One bank can break my whole route if I get hung up waiting. I now recognize which branches this will be an issue at and I make an appointment. I'm currently not taking anymore blue banks though. When you go into the same banks 6-8 times a year, asking basically the same questions, it's only a matter of time before you get called out. In addition, I have found that the blue banks are by far the lowest paying bank shops I've seen.

Is it acceptable to make an appointment?
The blue banks are also offered by Kern for a slightly higher fee. I've been recognized at the branches I've been to often but the bankers assumed that I am there just doing my job. They would comment on when I planned to open that checking account/credit card.
Shop fees are not paid by the Client. Shops fees are paid by the MSC after charging the Client an "enormous" fee. grinning smiley

The blue banks reports do not require a lengthy narrative. Just a few short sentences. I've done the shops with the stagecoach symbol and that required alot of narrative for the same type of interaction with the banker. The blue bank reports done in less than 20 minutes. The stage coach banks reports were 30 to 45 minutes.
Jimmydoe, I have to disagree with you about opening a checking account or savings for $200. If there are no charges and no minimum balance why not? You get more shops with an account. I usually open a savings no hassle.
