I apply for the shops at Coyle, but they never assign me. Does anyone else have this issue?

I'm sure Coyle shoppers will chime in, but you probably need to prove yourself on phone shops first and wait for an opportunity. They won't give you coveted work without you proving that you can provide what they want in a report.

Phone shops and restaurants. Coyle is more work than it's worth; many people will tell you. Of course, there's also people that will tell you just the opposite. I'm in the former camp. They think too highly of themselves.

Bestmark does Casinos too, so you have reimbursement for the hotel, food, sometimes a gift store purchase and casino expense; makes the measly fee not seem so bad. A closer look has some in my area but that would be a staycation with hotel reimbursement only and a very slim $20 fee for the report.
HA! Those are NOT staycations.
You have to arrive prior to 5PM.
You have to attend the kickback from 5-7pm (2 hours)
You have to exit the hotel and reenter AFTER 11:30 PM
You have to be ready to enter the breakfast area when they open at 6AM (can we say 5 hours of sleep??)
You have to stay until after 9:30 AM and make 4 more breakfast visits after your initial one when they open. So no going back to sleep!

Edited to add:

Those would have to pay in the range of $200 for me to do another one.

I requested one very last minute via an email to the scheduler asking, "Any hotel shops in xxx area for tomorrow night?". So I didn't get the guidelines until I was scheduled. I have completed numerous hotels for ACL before and thought this one couldn't be too hard. I texted, called & emailed the scheduler to remove the shop as soon as I saw the crazy guidelines. She was NOT happy! I told her I needed sleep and she replied there was plenty of time for sleep.... ummmmm not enough for me!
I stupidly took the shop without checking closer myself. I did the shop but I was not happy about it in the least bit. I understand why they stay on the board longer than other hotel shops. What I don't understand is why on earth people take them.

So two hours of bad food and booze, a middle of the night trek then five visits to the crappy breakfast bar in less than four hours? Considering how picky they are for shops taking an hour or less, I do not want to imagine the time it would take for the report. So much for a "free" hotel stay. hahaha

In years of doing ACL hotel shops I have encountered only one client (a franchisee) whose hotels have that late night front door check and have never had one where I had to go to the breakfast four times, much less be there when it opened. A couple of locations required a brief observation at the "free drinks and snacks" event, but never a 2 hour stay. I did 20-30 of their hotel shops a year for many, many years. Used all those rewards points for some very nice vacations!

So, I think that it must be certain regions and/or certain franchises that have those crazy standards. I sure would NOT have done more than ONE of the ilk that bg describes!

They (ACL) don't even have jobs in my area any longer, used to work for them, restaurants only, never having seen a hotel....now Nothing., no restaurants in L.A. except for a random pizza house...

I respectfully disagree, Irene. I see several restaurant shops in LA on the ACL board. Part of it depends on your definition of LA, though. smiling smiley

Additionally charming is when your room is next to a stairwell and you're treated to the sound of people engaged in "mating behavior" there. I shouted "go to your room already" through the wall.

I did three Coyle hotel shops about 10 years ago. Yes, I got a trip to Miami but I did not get to enjoy a minute of it since I had shops from the second I arrived until I finished reporting two days later. I ended up using the "pay" -- about $2 per evaluation, to help pay for my travel and the meals that were not included, so it was a huge bust. Plus, they told me to shop a particular bar that was not even there and no one answered when I called to ask what to do -- this after being told that if I didn't do all the evaluations, I would not be paid. On the San Francisco assignment, my scheduler told me the client raved about my work and said he had never seen such a thorough evaluation but Coyle gave me a 16 out of 20 as a grade for the assignment, stating that I'd used contractions, such as "didn't" rather than "did not." Way too much work for what sounds like a glamorous job. After my last assignment in Aspen, I was so exhausted that I needed to take three days off just to recover. No more from Coyle for me!

I have a hotel shop next week with ACL, my first hotel shop. I hurriedly read the requirements again, they seem pretty standard and not like the above.
