Chase overdraft shop

Hoping someone can give me some insight. I haven't done a Bank shop and I'm not at all sure what it entails. There is a nice incentive listed but I don't want to get over my head since I'm still learning. The shop just lists the project description as overdraft. Thanks in advance for any and all advice!

Super easy shop. Excellent for someone just starting out. You just go in, sit down with a banker, and ask them to explain overdraft protection. Quick questionnaire. About two sentences of narrative. Submit four photos of documents received during the visit.

its very easy. you will be given a scenario. to choose from.you just listen and the banker should do everything
They are sweet, easy shops....as long as you don't get hung up waiting for a banker.

Shopping up and down the Colorado Rocky Mountain front range.
Oh darn....can't do these shops because I'm a retired Chase employee.

Susie shopping the Columbus Ohio area and outlying communities.
I do have to admit that I got burned on these once.... I took a pair of these shops that were a long drive from home (5 hours, round trip) as they had a really nice bonus and I had several other shops in the area.... When I arrived, they told me (at both shops) that the bankers only saw people with appointments and would not have any openings for two days. I pushed a little, but... no dice. It took a few phone calls, but the MSC paid me anyway. I don't know what happened internally, but the MSC eventually agreed that Chase needed to have bankers available for drop-ins if they were going to demand that shoppers "drop in" to shop them. (Kudos to the MSC)

Thanks for the info! I think I'm going to bite the bullet and give it a whirl. So far I've only done a couple of fast food places, make up and jewelry shops because let's be honest, lol, those are things I feel comfortable with. Not sure I'll ever do an auto shop (those and the wireless shops scare me for some strange reason) I really appreciate everyone's response. It's nice to be able to check in with someone who's done these things before.
Remote locations often have bankers present on a limited basis and they work by appointment only. I have had that problem often.
JustLearning, the wireless shops are pretty straightforward. You should do one just to see how you like it. There are so many of them, they are great fillers. Plus, every once in a while they will be nicely bonused.

Are you allowed to call ahead to make sure a banker is available? Or is it normally drop in only? If it does happen I'm assuming you just notify the MSC like MFJohnston did and hopefully it won't ding your score to bad. I'd hate for one of the first shops I do for this MSC to be a bust. Thanks for the input!

You're right I should try one before I write them off. Not sure why I'm so nervous about them. One of the MSC's I shop for seems to constantly have jobs available.
After being told at certain locations that bankers are appointment only, I had no choice but to make appointments. Just use a fake name (and remember it when you arrive!). Larger branches in more populated areas usually have extra bankers. Also, the first, third and 15th of the month are busy days so I try to stay away from business days equivalent to those dates. Wait times are way too long.
Other than an unexpected wait, the hardest thing about these shops is looking interested after you've had overdraft practices explained to you for the millionth time.
Ok so when I go in I just ask to speak to the banker? What is a banker? I'm assuming it's not the loan officer or teller. Lol, this is going to sound crazy but if I was doing this for myself and not a mystery shop I would just go to the first Bank employee I saw. Since this is a mystery shop I know better smiling smiley
I tell the teller that I would like to talk to somebody about their checking accounts. The teller then has me sit in queue waiting for a banker.

I go in and if no one pays any attention to me I sit in the seating area. That generally alerts someone that I need help with something. When someone asks me I just say I would like to speak with a banker. I never specify what kind of banker, I just say banker. If they ask what about I give them the scenario, whatever it is in the guidelines. For example... "I'm interested in opening a checking account but before I do I wanted to find out how Chase handle overdrafts." Typically you will wait a few minutes until a banker is available to explain it to you. Chase has "personal bankers" who handle nearly everything unless you need to be taken further up the chain. If you sit there more than 5 minutes and no one asks what you need help with, then you need to approach a teller and tell them you need to speak with a banker.
A banker should come and take you to his/her office and explain overdraft protection to you. Pay attention because you will be asked specific things about how they explained it. Take a look at the report you will be doing before you go. They should give you a folder, a rate sheet, and a business card. The other things may vary but don't leave without a business card. If the banker doesn't have one someone in the bank will and they should get one for you. Make sure the name on the card matches the name of the banker. I have had the banker be from a different branch, and he gave me his real card which had the wrong branch address printed on it. I just explained that in the report.
In my area, for this bank, the banker sits at a desk, generally in a glass enclosed area. And there is a waiting area with chairs. If a teller first acknowledged me when i walk in I simply point to the banker's area and wait to be approached by a banker or have a seat. When I am approached I say I need some information about ODP or checking accounts or whatever the scenario. The MSC clearly does not want you to Make this inquiry with a teller.
The tellers will refer you to a banker if you ask a teller the scenario. They are not permitted to discuss the accounts, it seems and will invariably refer you or tell you to take a seat and wait...which lately, could be awhile.

Be careful! I did one for opening a checking account. Asked to talk to a banker but the person at the teller window said she did the account openings and proceeded to go thru the drill. I turned it and the MSC said it was invalid because you can't do the visit with a teller or someone that is not a personal banker. 50 mile round trip for nothing. Her business card said Teller Supervisor.

I had a similar problem at a credit union inside a retail store. I said I wanted to speak with a banker about opening an account. The one and only employee present said she could help me. Went thru the whole scenario and at the end, she handed me her card and she was a teller. Guess who did t get paid on that shop?
I do a lot of remote areas. Only once have I ever had a teller try to handle it and I told her I had a lot of questions. She got a banker for me. More often, the bank manager is the one who helps me. Never had one denied.

The app has made these shops especially easy. And the same goes for their cell phone shops. Super easy. Did ten each of the last two days. Done with reports before I head home.
I just wanted to drop in and thank everyone again for your help. I was able to pick up the shop and it went very smooth. Probably one of the easiest I've done so far.
Their bank shops for Chase are one of the easiest to do. Just make sure you don't visit the same location too often. Like every two to three months. Wait till the fourth month to go back to that location because most likely, you'll get the same banker and they would remember you.

whiterosie, How can you finish the bank shops before you get home? Each job requires you to upload several pieces of information.

I assume she uses the app to complete the report immediately after the shop. All she needs is a pen to write the date and shop number on the paperwork she's given and she can complete it with her smartphone in her car.

whiterosie, How can you finish the bank shops before you get home? Each job requires you to upload several pieces of information.
So when they've finished their spiel, what do you say? There are several scenarios for the chase shops. If you ask about the liquid card, how do you get out of it without getting a card and without tipping them off that you're shopping them?
For the Liquid Card, I usually act surprised by the monthly fee and tell them I need to discuss it with my husband to see if it would be worth it. Sometimes, I just thank them and say I'll come back when I'm ready. Chances are, they know anyway. In NJ, these shops have become quite complicated now, or tricky. They're using NJ as a pilot state for changes coming....YUCK..not as easy peasy as they used to be!! They're not difficult, just tricky with what we have to say and do.

Thanks! I didn't know there is a monthly fee. I should really just try some different types of shops and stop worrying about what might happen.
