Editor blues

Please help me understand if I am doing this incorrectly. A question on my form asks if an item exists at a location. The location does not have the item but they utilize a virtual item that they do not own. So I answer No. If I had answered Yes, the following questions would need to be answered: where is it secured ? how is it secured, where is it located ?

The editor insists I should answer yes. Even though I cannot answer the following questions for yes. There are other questions in case the item is indeed virtual which I can answer and I am instructed to give a sheet that describes the security and details of the virtual item to the client.

This editor mind you, is new and their title is actually Administrative Assistant in their email. I have previously answered this question No and the other editors have never said anything to me.

I wouldn't think too hard on it. I would do as the editor asks, and then explain the situation in a comments field. But that still leaves you wondering what to do on the next shop, I suppose.
Unless the guidelines state otherwise, there is no definitive answer to this.

Regardless of her title, she is an editor. When there is no definitive answer and an editor corrects me, I tend to defer to the editor's judgment.

What I may also do is to email the editor (and cc: scheduler) and ask for confirmation that this is how I should answer that question from now on under the same circumstances. If I had previously answered "No" to the question under the same circumstances without negative feedback, I would bring that up--in a neutral, objective manner.

Good luck.
This sort of thing has happened to me a couple of times... When the questions on the form just don't seem to match the reality I experienced, I'll answer the questions to the best of my ability and make a note about it in a narrative field - even if one is not available and I have to use a different field. I would write something like this: "I marked question #9 as "yes," but am not sure that that is the correct answer in accordance with what I saw. I saw this: XXXXXXXXX and none of the available answers seemed appropriate. I am happy to alter the answer as you prefer in order to communicate this. "

Most editors know that shops don't always go to script and things happen that just don't fit correctly into the form. As long as you convey the truth and explain yourself clearly, they'll work with you.

Hard work builds character and homework is good for your soul.
Yeah, but how is Frodo supposed to answer the questions about how the non-present item is secured?
This particular person has bones to pick with me ! I am ready to quit this MS and find another one. The company requires that I make contact with clients daily until I can set up appointments. Nowhere in the guidelines or tests does it say 24 hours. So if I call a contact at 9 am yesterday and then call them at 3 pm today that's a problem. They prompt me to call clients before the day is over which is annoying to me personally. So now that I am aware of the non-existent 24 hour rule, I abide by it. My favorite editor actually sent me a notice to call the contact after I already made the appointment and noted it in the system. It looked like this:

Frodo - Appointment has been set for 5/12 at 11 am.
$%&# - Frodo, please call the contact to make the appointment.
Frodo- $%&#, the appointment has been set, please see above notation.

She actually deleted her request ! I find that to be dishonest and it bothers me. The least she could have said is, sorry, I see it.

Today I had an appointment where the contact was a no show. I whip out my guidelines that state, wait 30 minutes, take pictures. So I called the contact, waited 30 minutes and took the pictures.

I submitted my report. $%&# emails me back - she has a few questions that are not asked in the report. Did I call the contact ? How long were you on site ? Why didn't you call the company ? Yes, I called the contact. I waited 30 minutes. The guidelines do not require me to call the company for a no show.

She then screenshots me what she called the guidelines/testing material which does indeed say call for no show and if I meet any resistance. Well, my guidelines don't say that. So I sent her a copy of what was attached to the assignment and have yet to hear back from her.

So what do you guys suggest when a company starts making up rules and guidelines they don't provide you with ? I feel like moving on.

It was secured virtually or that question was not applicable.

Except that security of the virtual item is a completely different form. maybe I should explain it with an actual item.

Q. Does the company have a fax machine ?
Yes or No.
If yes, how is it secured ? Where is it located ?

My reality is this - the company does not have a fax machine in the office. They use efax's virtual service. So, to me, no is the right answer. Then there is another questionnaire if the company uses another company's virtual service that asks about the security levels of the virtual service.

The admin insists I should answer yes to the question. And the schedulers agreed with her. She must be the CEO's girlfriend.
You would answer yes and there is a place to note this.
You just may have gotten them denied for services.
Scheduler IS correct. Admin is correct.

What part of being the girlfriend is politically or professionally needed in that conversation?

These particular jobs are supposed to be done by professionals with training to know the facts of the job.

You are quite the troll, canadamommy. How many of my posts are you going to look up and folliw me around to post on ? Lol.

Guess what? Services weren't denied. I followed the editors instructions. I just personally didn't agree. And i wasn't aware you were the political and professional police of the forum.

Please find another target as you so often do.
Actually you have no way of knowing. If the company was denied services or not. Once you send it , it is out of your hands.
Still trying to make yourself right ? The editor did not submit the report until the additional questions were answered to her satisfaction. So if it was denied, that had nothing to do with me. You are hilarious!
