Happy and frustrated

I had a drive thru shop scheduled this week, one requiring receipt and food photos. Easy enough shop. Things are normal until I get to the window, guy hands me my food and says, "the car before you paid for your food. Have a great day."
I then realized...that also meant he had my receipt.
Nice to be the subject of a pay it forward thing, but really didn't want to have to explain all this.
I had to laugh realizing, only a mystery shopper would find the pay it forward situation a bit irritating. SO i just enjoyed the meal.
Luckily I was able to reschedule and went back the next day. Though I wonder what I would have done if this had happened on a shop while I was on the road

If traveling or unable to reschedule, I would have just gone to the end of the line and ordered again and paid for it. Chances are the cashier wouldn't even notice you a second time. If she did and said something, I would have said I was overcome by the pay-it-forward I had gotten and decided to take lunch back for my co-worker so we could eat together.

Boy, that's quick thinking on the fly!!! I doubt if I could have come up with something like that on short notice. I probably would have just written it up as it happened, without the receipt, knowing I would not get paid, because if it WAS on a route, I wouldn't have gone back. But yours is a GREAT idea to keep in mind if I ever need a reason for something like that!!
Wowza! I could have used that advice recently! smiling smiley

I personally would take a photo (time-stamped) of my order and explain the situation to the msc. That's happened to me a few times, and I've never had a report rejected because of it. It might depend on the msc, but I've done this with Market Force, Ardent, Reality-Based and CRI.
I have gone through the drive thru twice, when I realized I messed up the first one. When rememdered, I just said I was still hungry!
I once did a mystery shop at a gas station that I did audits for at another location. The manager of the other location was there and wouldn't let me pay for my item. I immediately called the MSC and the lady laughed and told me to put that in my report. I did and got paid.
I'd ask for a copy of the receipt, saying I update a food log every evening and the itemized receipt helps me remember what I ate.

You should have paid it forward and used that receipt
Two problems with this:
1. There was no one behind me in the drive thru.
2. Even if there was, they would have had to order the exact same meal since I had to take photos of the meal, and the MSC does have ordering requirements.

roflwofl's suggestion is gold though.
I've had the "pay it forward" happen during an Arby's shop. In fact, the restaurant was having a competition between stores and the cashier asked if I would also pay it forward because they were almost to an unbroken chain of 100! I honestly told her it would depend on what the car behind me ordered (I wasn't going to pay for more than one meal!). The total was less than my order, so I said yes.

I immediately wrote the MSC, hoping they would get back to me before the shop was due. This was a photo shop so I took the pictures. Luckily, the MSC replied quickly that I could proceed with the report, but I would only be reimbursed what I paid for the other car.

NOTE: I'm not on the forum every day. If someone comments on my post, I might not reply right away. I've been a shopper since 1991. I've never done any work for a MS company in any other capacity.
