I took mine to Subaru and got new wiper blades when the price hit the triple digits, LOL!

Seriously, my excuse was I had recently moved and needed a new place to have my car serviced. The nearest Nissan dealer was over 20 minutes away.

Well this dealership is 45 minutes one way. So an hour and half plus a half hour for the shop plus the report . $31 is being offered for shop fee and then up to $60 for an oil change. I think it's worth more than what is being offered.
I didn't know you could do that!

Well for this shop you can. All the others I've seen you had to have the brand car that the dealership sold.
I'm sure you don't want to hear this. Mine was 20 minutes away and paid $250. I did have to pay the wiper blades out of my fee.

In the interest of full disclosure, it was a rush job. Originally it needed to be done within just a few hours of the original email. Because of some back and forth then traffic and rainy weather preventing me from getting there the same afternoon it was extended to the next day. It was also the last month of the quarter, but it was within the first two weeks so it may have been a holdover from the previous month.

Mine had a sister dealership next door which WAS a Nissan so they just looked at me blankly and told me to take it over there. I reported what happened and got like a $15 fee for trying sad smiley
I still needed the oil change though!!

Shopsouthtexas,
I have not been able to overcome my fear (for lack of a better word) of doing something like you did. Taking the car to a different brand dealer when the correct brand was next door. Now for this one, there isn't a Nissan dealership close by. But the scheduler said the shop is at its maximum and what would it take to get me there? I don't know what to ask. I hate seeming greedy.
You are not greedy, you are a business person bidding for a job needing to be done. You have to cover expenses and make a profit.

You have a leg up with no Nissan dealer nearby. They may not even ask, but if they do you have just moved to the area or are visiting a relative or even on a long road trip and just realized your oil needs to be changed.

I do it all the time. The Nissan dealership couldnt fit me in, I like the service guys here better, used to have a Chrysler so used the dealership before, etc. I have never been asked why I brought an off brand in, they happily take my money!
We never asked customers why they bring other brands to our Toyota service center. We service all vehicles. All of our used cars go through the shop, we want those customers to use our service. Any service center should want your business.

Edawn, I totally wouldn't have had the **** to do it had I known they had the place next door. I had just moved from a place where I'd taken the Nissan many times for an oil change shop at the local Chrysler dealership with zero problems. I only continued with the shop once I realized this because it was too late. I was already there and needed that oil change. I told the guy I'd heard great things about their customer service and he just shook his head and pointed me out the door. Super embarrassing!! But I had to try at that point. Never signed up again obviously!

Great point! Most dealerships sell off brand preowned cars.
The Chrysler dealerships actually promote a branded quick maintenance/oil change service that is supposed to be different from their regular service department. All models welcome, according the the website. At my local dealership I often take other brands and they never blink an eye. At a couple of smaller dealerships it still was not a big deal, except they didn't carry my oil filter and told me it would be a long wait while they sent someone to go buy one from the auto parts store. I just said okay and waited them out.
