Same Scam, New Angle

Recently, members of the public have been targeted by two fraudulent schemes involving forged Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc. checks. In the first, recipients were delivered a forged Cracker Barrel check with a letter instructing them to cash the check, keep a portion of the proceeds and send the remainder to a third party identified in the instructions. In the second, recipients received a letter purporting to be from Readers Digest® advising them that they have won a sweepstakes prize. The letter is accompanied, again, by a forged Cracker Barrel check. Recipients are instructed to cash the check and call a toll-free number to receive further instructions for claiming the supposed prize money. BOTH OF THESE "OFFERS" ARE SCAMS. Cracker Barrel does not employ mystery shoppers, nor do we participate in Readers Digest® contests. YOU SHOULD NOT CASH OR DEPOSIT ANY CHECK AND YOU SHOULD NOT TRANSFER MONEY TO ANY PARTY YOU DO NOT KNOW ON THE BASIS OF ANY INSTRUCTIONS PURPORTEDLY FROM CRACKER BARREL.
