Just A Reminder - Why Communication Is So Important

I have had several shops due over the past two weeks and the upcoming week. I have also been very sick over the past two weeks. Needless to say none of the shops were done, and I only see one shop being done towards the end of this week.
For EACH shop, I communicated my status, hoping for some empathy. I did NOT wait unil the morning of or even the day before the shop was due. In the worst case, I was able to communicate at least 48 hours before, giving my status and letting the schefuler know that there was a probability that I would be unable to make the shop. I also told them that I would let them know if my status changed and agreed to them reassigning the shop. That's where we stand today as I wait to fully recover. I feel that it was a cross between the MSC's being glad that I let them know and the MSC's being unhappy that a shop had to be rescheduled. However, for all of them, I think they were happy that I didn't just flake out on the shops.

And, I am sure that CureMS's reputation for reliability and excellent reports went a long way towards easing the pains of having to reassign. Staying in touch when things are going wrong is essential, as she has said. It is part of the REP of a great shopper.

Hope you feel better soon @CureMS. Maybe I read it wrong, but it sounded like you left some grey area there regarding your ability to perform the shops. So were the shops re-assigned or rescheduled? When I was off my feet for a bit for some minor surgery last November, I cancelled all my scheduled shops for the next 2 weeks immediately, letting them know the reason. I probably could have done some of the shops after 4 days, but I felt it was better for the MSC to have definitive information rather than cloudy possibilities.

BTW, all those MSCs thanked me for informing them, and wished me a speedy recovery. I agree 110% communication is the best way to build your MSing reputation.

I had a similar situation last year. I met my mom downtown for a lunch shop, then I went and bought myself a bike. On the way home from that, I went over my handlebars and broke my collarbone. I was able to reschedule everything I had booked. The schedulers offered to clear them off my log at no penalty, but I was confident that I could still complete them with enough extra time (none of the ones at that time were on the final deadline). I think I was able to get them all done by the time I had surgery to correct it.
Hope you feel better!
I have had great luck with rescheduling shops with every MSC except for Intellishop. Unfortunately Intellishop slapped a citation on my record. Every other MSC I've worked with has been absolutely awesome when it has come to reschedules.
