How do you do a test drive shop....

and NOT leave the dealership sad because you don't get to leave with the shiny new car you just drove?? I did my first at a Mercedes-Benz dealership last night, and now I WANT one!!!

Been there, always want the new car, only one I didn't want was a Ford, which wouldn't start...smiling smiley
I'll take Mercedes, Audi, BMW and the new electric car by Huyndai.

Live consciously....
And guess what I'm doing today. Yup, another test drive! Lucky for me I my own car has me spoiled. It's a "luxury" car, and comfortable. Uh, wait. It's 11 years old. It doesn't have side cameras. Okay, so it has a backup camera. But not the kind with guides and not as good. Still has a CD player. No CarPlay. Who needs CarPlay? It's got a cigarette plug for my phone and it syncs. Most of the time. Well, it's going to be 12 years old soon. But it has low miles. Really, 95k miles is getting up there when things start costing. No auto brake. That's a very cool feature. Hmmm. what would the trade in be again? I could lease...

No angst here. I do tell my car after each test drive that I'm just doing it for the money.
12 yrs old and only 95k miles. My car is 6 years old and has 130k on it. I have to start calling to get the mileage approved when I do an oil change shop.
I did a Mercedes shop last week. Sure beat my 10 year old minivan with 185,000 miles on it. The salesperson, who was an older gentleman, said he had helped many a mom graduate to a non-minivan vehicle! I also want a $10K diamond ring from a jewelry shop that I did. <sigh>
All the time, then I’m reminded that my car’s perfectly fine and has been paid off for 5+ years.

Shopping the Greater Denver Area, Colorado Springs and in-between in Colorado. 33 year old male and willing to travel!
My wife has a hot car in the garage that I don't even like driving. She just bought me a new mini-van though. I like it. I can throw all my stuff in it and my dogs. I can lug home furniture from the flea market to paint. I can get my bags of mulch and plants. Those things are far more fun to me than revving an engine. So I don't do car shops often but when I do I'm okay with leaving it at the dealer.

To me a car is an engine and four wheels that gets me reliably from Point A to Point B at the lowest possible cost. Some of the bells and whistles are nice, but since I don't actively seek them and keep cars forever, when it's time for the next car a lot of the extras will have become standard equipment. I do like to buy them new or newish and want them to look nice which means spending a little more to get them a good bath plus keeping the interior clean and organized.

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of your time and it really annoys the pig.
My husband brought home a BWM two weeks ago. "Baby, the truck is dead. I need a new truck..."

Well, we're now the owners of JCW 6 speed.... Why do we need a car that can go 150 mph but barely holds our travel luggage? I dunno but he gots what he wanted.

I drive a Chevy. It's 4.5 years old and climbing up to the 100K mark. It's a freaking tank grinning smiley

Keep doing them and you will get used to it. The first time I did a BMW shop (I drive a Nissan), the salesman was spending his commission I was drooling so hard.

The main reason I like doing car shops is I love driving new cars. My own car is just a few months old and I really like it but it's still fun to try other cars. My husband, on the other hand, mostly rides a motorcycle. But his backup vehicle is a 98 Ford Ranger that spends a lot of time in our driveway. Every couple of months or so, someone leaves a note on it wanting to buy it. My husband really doesn't want to sell it so he's ignored the notes so far. I suspect that if he ever responds he'll want about $3,000 (book value about $1,800). I don't know if anyone wants it that badly but he doesn't care.
