I had a great shop for a reputable MSC today. $200 to open a checking account, but I had to portray myself as a non-English speaker and only speak Spanish. The purpose of the shop is the confirm compliance with various legal and company regulations.
I attempted to open the account, but nobody in the bank spoke any Spanish. (They do have access to telephone interpretation services, which is part of what they are required to use...) The banker, citing a lack of Spanish speakers at the bank, said that they could not help me and referred me to another location. Feigning misunderstanding, I asked twice more to open the account, but was simply referred to the other location. As I departed the bank, a security guard was hanging out by the exit and watched me go to my car....
I am in communication with the MSC and am curious how this one with play out.... It seem strange that I, as a white guy, feel like I was discriminated against for being Latino......
