Friday's Restaurant Shops

I have a To Go shop scheduled for next week. What is the report like? If you frequent this restaurant, what are some of your menu favorites? It has been a few years since I have been there.

I shop Freddy's for two different MSCs and I'm not sure which you are asking about. One is a meal for two and has liberal ordering requirements. Pretty easy report, although it does require a bit of narrative, and it has a great reimbursement. The other requires that you order a Double Burger (and you must photograph it) with fries and drink and you order a sundae. That report is really easy.

I think she means TGIF not Freddy’s.
Duh. You are so right. That means I'm hitting the Holiday beverages too early in the evening and I'm telling on myself. Tipsy posting? Hmmm. I'll stop posting and get back to drinking. Happy Holidays.
Is there really such a thing as too early?

It's been awhile since they closed Fridays in my town, but I used to get their steak and mashed potato's.

I am having a rum and Coke. Refreshing after the multiple glasses of red wine yesterday.
Tipsy posting is always forgiven! Now get back to drinking.

I didn't say it was my first of the night, LOL.

And tipsy posting is NOT always forgiven. I have been offensive more than once and had to check and edit myself or apologize for transgressions more than once. And I have seen worse and more offensive posting than mine on several occasions that I suspect was a result of tipsy posting. But, OTOH, I have seen some downright hilarious posts as a result of possible tipsy posting...
Now I'm about to have my new and improved Vanilla Bourbon, trying to play catcch up.....I mean atch, catch......
oh shoot....cheers....

Wheeeeeee...

Sorry for the temporary hijack. I have a Friday's shop on January 2nd. It was not paired with another shop, thank goodness, and I am so happy it's a carryout and only 4 miles away. It's damn cold outside and doesn't look like it's going to get any better anytime soon!

I used to like the parmesan encrusted chicken a lot, but the portion size got smaller, the price got larger, and they quit serving it with the spinach tortellini with a light cream sauce and pair it with cheddar mac and cheese now. Makes no sense at all since it comes with a Caprese salad that was perfect with the tortellini. They do have a lot of other good stuff, I like them so much better than Applebees. But for carryout, avoid anything that comes with a side of fries unless you like limp potatoes.

I have my first ToGo shop next week and I am trying to get it as close as possible to the reimbursement without going over. I am thinking about a steak and a rack of ribs.
A hijack that diverts to drinking is always welcome.

I looked at the menu. I think I will be going with the Cobb salad and the Bucket of Bones, which includes fries.

JAS, why are smaller portions a bad thing?

Well when the chicken breast got smaller they didn't adjust the cooking time for one thing. Overcooked, dry chicken sucks. And paying more for a smaller size chicken breast also sucks.

Edited to add that it used to be enough food for me to take home and have for lunch the next day. Honny, I thought you were all about having enough food for another meal!

Edited a second time because Sassy is a smartsass. LOL!

"they didn't adjust the cooing time for one thing"
I didn't know chickens cooed!!! Maybe you ordered a dove instead? lol
I just have to mention, I did Fridays shops years ago. It was a Fridays' shop where my favorite MS story happened. I had my husband and teenage kids with me and my kids didn't know I was doing a shop. There was a requirement for me to order a beer and see if the waiter would suggest a particular beer. It's well known in my family that I don't like beer so there was stunned silence from my kids when I ordered one. I explained later what was going on but it's still a family joke about me and beer.

I went to TGIF one time in my life. It happened to be my first mystery shop for TGIF, and it was about 9 years ago. I am so glad I did not have to eat there on my dime. The menu was one of the least diverse I had ever experienced. I have never returned to TGIF. I can only remember the disappointment in the food fare. In other words, TGIF's is one restaurant that you literally could not pay me to dine in.
Yes! I am all about multiple meals from one shop! But the other side of my perpetual diet mind is asking about the smaller portions.

I did my shop today. It was very simple, I got a lot of food, and the report took less than an hour. It will definitely be on my regular rotation. Between the salad and the appetizer, I will have dinner through Saturday.

Oh it was soooo easy and I got a lot of food for the $40 reimbursement. I will be ready to do another one when they come back up.
I did this shop. Lousy experience. Got two appetizers and two entrees. Both entrees were chicken based and both were overcooked. The chicken sandwich was so overdone that my daughter first thought it was a hamburger! The chicken parmesan was also overcooked and the accompanying pasta was a small portion with not enough sauce. When you have to open up a jar of sauce at home to add to the restaurant entree, something is wrong. I did learn a big lesson on this shop — I didn’t take the entrees back because I was afraid to invalidate the shop. When I asked the MSC to make it right they said that was the risk that shoppers take. So now I know I can speak up when doing restaurant shops for them, but my goodness — without doubt that chicken sandwich was the worst takeout entree I’ve received in 10 years. I’ve always been fond of TGI Friday’s but this was a shock. Could other people chime in with their results? I’m wondering whether this was a bad location or if the restaurant in general has declined? The report length would have been fine if the food was good, but in this case, not so much.
There is generally a good reason a restaurant wants to evaluate a department of their business--and apparently the takeout department needs work. Maybe they were getting complaints? I ordered the Parmesan encrusted chicken, which is usually pretty good in the restaurant--but they packaged the Caprese salad in the same container as the chicken and the dressing from the salad made the chicken coating soggy. Also the hot chicken was cooled down by the salad and the salad was warmed up by the chicken...both were room temperature. The two soups we ordered were both excellent, and my husband also ordered the fried shrimp and seasoned fries. The fries were not seasoned and were not hot but the shrimp were good. After evaluating a few fries, we put them on a cookie sheet and added salt, then put them in the oven. I did make notes about everything of course and the photos don't lie. I don't think you could go wrong with the ribs, that might be my next try. I don't mind helping them out with improvements in the carryout department and I would do this shop again, as the food was edible. Doesn't sound like your chicken sandwich was edible, though, yuk.
My Bucket of Bones appetizer had ribs, wings and fries. The ribs were tender, the wings were juicy, and the fries sucked (as to be expected on a take out order).

The Million Dollar Cobb salad was great! The ingredients were fresh, the grilled chicken was cooked perfectly, and the Green Goddess dressing was great.

The next time I do this shop, I'm ordering the exact same thing.
