Is this check a scam?

(Anotha one!!)

I received a check in the mail and I'm concerned it's a scammer check - it came alone, without the usual job list or date sheet showing what it covered, and I'm fairly sure I have not received a check from this company before. I'm not sure I've completed an assignment for them, as my payment history on their site is nil and I don't have my extended shopper profile complete.

That being said, I'm not being asked to cash a portion for someone else, or anything like that; the company is legitimate and it's certainly possible that I picked up a shop through one of the MS aggregation sites like iSS or GigSpot.. any advice on being sure one way or the other before I cash a fraud check OR miss out on a legit payment?

How much is the check, and are there any instructions that came with it? If no instructions came with it and it's not for a large amount, it's possible you conducted a shop for the MSC through a third party or something...or were sent the check by mistake if there is another shopper with the same name somewhere (that has actually happened to me).
Oh, and you could always call the bank it was drawn upon and check out the aggregate sites where you do shops.
I started checking through the aggregate sites and wound up finding the one single shop I had completed for them a while back! Service with Style was the company and the check checks out tongue sticking out smiley It was only $90 so I thought it was probably legit, but the scammers have me scared.

Man, I've got to get rid of my complicated last name so I can cop someone's else's checks by accident...

Thanks for the thoughts y'all, I'd never have thought to call the bank to check - that's a great tip I'm sure many people could use.

Better to be safe than sorry, but for only $90 you could pretty much guarantee that it's legit. Now $900...that's a different story.
Turns out they likely used Fidelity payment services and that's why the check looked like it did - I found an article about it. [thefinancebuff.com]

@JASFLFLMT - Exactly, $90 isn't worth the legal trouble if it IS false, haha. I figured the low $ meant it was real but still.

BINGO! Not worth all of the time and trouble all the scam takes doing it for just $90. Most are for around $2k or more
