Post Office Shops

I have not done a post office shop and would like to try. I have someone in zone 1 for a regular box shop but I would like to do a hazmat post office shop. I need at least a zone 5. My zip code is 48625, how far would I have to search outside of my area? I checked in zip code 03885 and 28056 which are out of my state and they are only zone 4.

NW Florida is zone 5 for you, so is Little Rock, AR, Tulsa OK, Mobile, AL...

I mail to my cousin in Phoenix, AZ from NE Ohio and it's a zone 7 and to my brother in Houston and it's a zone 6. If I reuse a box and don't have to buy a new one I can send to my cousin without going over on postage. If you are mailing to zone 5 and 6 you can buy a box from Walmart and not go over on postage + box purchase for those hazmat shops. I always reuse boxes anyway. It's easy to get used boxes from the dollar store and then turn them inside out, tape them back up, and reuse them (save a tree).
Now THAT'S funny, 2stepps!!! I have just done 2 Hazmat shops in the past 10 days that were both ACCEPTED (not at the PO but at retail stores) I sent both packages to my sister up north, and we have both chuckled about her receiving "care" goodie-packages that should never have gone through based on the guidelines. So I'm going to send this to her....she'll get a chuckle from it. Thanks for sharing.
All the ones for May have already been grabbed up in my area, even the remote sites.
ROTFLMBAO 2stepps!!!!!

Could have successfully mailed that package twice last week.

There's a regular box shop available in my area. I just looked over the guidelines, and they're 18 pages long! It seems overwhelming, but I am considering taking it anyway.

The first couple of times you do one can seem overwhelming, considering the observations you have to make. But after you do 3 or 4 of them, they become very easy-peasy....if the line isn't long, in and out in 5-6 minutes. Go ahead and try it! The report is easy, because there is little to no narrative.
I was a little overwhelmed at first but they are pretty straightforward and the report time is minimal.
Would anyone be able to PM me the MS company that assigns post office shops? I haven’t seen this rotation yet and would be interested to try it. TY! smiling smiley
Agree with what others have said. I had 2 rejected at the beginning because I mixed up the shop types but since then they are my favorite. Can really see the impact of the last round at the post offices. The retail locations always ship but atleast this msc pays twice a month. Ive completed about 40 now. $$$

No, but if you know how to use the search feature, you'll find it very quickly. That's how I found it.
I just emailed my scheduler asking when the next round of shops would be released, and she told me that there may not be any shops in the future as they have not renewed the contract. Not surprising since the post office is losing money, but I have been shopping the post office for over 15 years and it will be a real bummer to not get the chance to send treats to my friends and family. She said if the contract gets renewed there will be shops in July...but I didn't get a positive vibe about this.

I would be really disappointed too. I ship to a lady who uses the school supplies that I send in her classroom. I also ship to people who donate to food banks. I ship things to my son in college and a ton of eBay sales as well. sad smiley
No, spicy, it will save them money. A lot of money. They might go out of businesses either way. It's unfathomable to think that the once pony express would be defunct.
Aw, sorry, I meant the msc. No way the gov't would let the post office go out of business.
Interesting tidbit, I have read USPS would actually turn a profit if they were not forced to prepay retirement benefits in full. That is not SOP in businesses offering pensions.

Guess I better hold off on placing that next order for boxes until the contract gets sorted out. Odd timing for a contract renegotiation though. Usually these things revolve around the fiscal year ending in September.

Guess we will find out in a month or so. Spicy the MSC has other clients...I'm sure it would hurt to lose such a huge client, though.
I'm wondering about something. The 2 PO shops left on the board in my area say Q3. Does that mean Quarter 3??? And if it does, does that mean there is still a Q4 whereby we may still see shops??? If their Q3 ends in June, and the contract is yearly, does that mean PO shops will show up for July-Aug as their Q4 shops?? This is all speculation, as I have no idea how they contract their program. But one would think that if they are not going to renew their contract, then they would at least finish out the one they have. And since the 2 left in my area are showing Q3, it made me curious as to whether or not they would finish up their contract year.............does any of this make sense to anyone else??? I am just wondering about it.
